Even if McBain was a commercial enterprise, there are only 2 courses open to Argos here - return the games or provide the value on the vouchers.
No, the only 2 courses are give him his vouchers back, or an iPad.One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.0 -

The Argos website does state:
'Our trade-in service is available in all UK stores and you can trade in selected PS3, Wii, Xbox 360 and Nintendo DS games, as well as selected consoles. You can trade-in as many video games as you like, but only 1 copy of each game'.
So, I guess going to various stores was to get round the '1 copy of each game' rule. I believe they have to take your name and address when you trade in. Did you provide your real details each time?0 -

I know that. The point is, Argos have no legal recourse to return the games. That is not a legal option open to them. One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.0 -

I was only really raising the possibility against the argument that McBain should go in and try to broker a compromise.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -

I have not looked at the terms and conditions regarding trading games but I am guessing it would have looked odd if you went to one store with 10 games all the same title to trade in - your behaviour would however suggest you knew that questions would be asked if you traded all the games in the same store.
I wondered if you were going to answer this question?
Also in your OP ,you say the games were "mainly....."
What about the others?
I don't suppose they ever take a receipt away from you?
So,in theory you could be reusing the same receipts??
Perhaps they think you have been stealing them and using the same receipt repeatedly? Or bought them fraudulently eg from a catalogue then selling them on.0 -

Where do company's or anyone else for that matter get of when it comes to making claims of theft! It's bang out of line! When a receipt shows a game costs £10 and they give £15 that should remove doubt.
If anything they are the ones crossing a fine legal line.0 -

There is rarely anything such as a "fine legal line". More often than not it is a "huge grey area".You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -

No, they wouldn't. They accepted the trades. That's done and dusted. The only thing they need to 'check' is that the gift cards were legitimately issued in the first place - i.e. that they do indeed have the correct value, and weren't issued fraudulently by a member of staff.
Had it been me, my response would have been that of Little Britain's Mr Mann: "OK, I'll just wait". Which is what I would have done. I certainly wouldn't have left the shop in a position where they could potentially claim that I've been given my goods, and they merely forgot to stamp my receipt.0 -
wonder if OP has bothered to email Argos HQ about this.
my stance would of being to remove my mobile phone from my pocket and calmly say i will call trading standards and the police and will wait here for them and just see what reaction you woulkd get as i dare say especially this time of year Argos would not want TS and the police all over their store infront of customers.0
