Where do company's or anyone else for that matter get of when it comes to making claims of theft! It's bang out of line! When a receipt shows a game costs £10 and they give £15 that should remove doubt.
If anything they are the ones crossing a fine legal line.
I don't know why you are asking me..?
If the company suspect something is amiss and make specific accusations why does the op -who you know-contact a solicitor? Why has histx joined mse just to add to this thread?,,0 -

The OP also does not seem to what to email Argos HQ for some reason.0 -

...and why do the OP and histx both struggle with spelling the word receipt?0 -
Woah you guys - I have a real life as well as asking for advice on here!
I'm sorry if I can't devote 24 hours a day to dealing with this issue. I did start this thread to ask for some advice which I have received.
I would like to take time to consider the advice and decide on the appropriate course of action.
At no stage have I said I won't email Argos HO. I did ring the CS line when that was suggested & as I suspected it got me back to square 1.
I will write an email & send that along with a copy of the receipt (is that spelt correctly NCISROCKS? I didn't know the spelling police would be hounding me to be quite honest!).
I can assure that histex is a completely seperate person from myself and was the one who suggested I post on here as it may have provided some clarity in the situation.
Once again I am very grateful for all the helpful suggestions received on this thread.0 -
It seems to me Argos are suspicious and playing a waiting game with you, hoping you are not going to return.Perhaps going back with another upstanding person, maybe older,as support will show them you have nothing to hide.I think they will have no choice0

No, they wouldn't. They accepted the trades. That's done and dusted.QUOTE]
Accepted the trades or not, if something was incorrectly stated or not made known at the time (such as the OP buying games with the specific purpose of trading them in) then the contract may well be invalidated.
It's a bit like someone who lies when filling out a motor insurance application.
The insurance company will accept the applicant but if they later find out that they were misled they will rightfully cancel the policy.0 -

There's no reason it should be invalidated. Many trade in places (I don't know if Argos is one of them) offer cash trade ins too - usually a few pounds less than store credit. If the OP had traded the games for cash, would they still be entitled to rescind the contract? Store credit is supposed to be as good as cash.
Argos offered a trade in price that they are happy to pay. The OP traded in games for that price. That transaction was completed to the satisfaction of both parties. What Argos seem to want to do now is restrict the OP from using *his* store credit in the way that he sees fit. The OP's mistake was in leaving the store with neither his goods nor his money.0 -

How can you possibly know that for an absolute fact?0 -
*sigh* Change "gift cards" for "cash" and you'll understand. Where he got the gift card credit from is irrelevant, just as it would be had he traded the games in for cash and tried to use the cash to buy his iPad. The OP did nothing wrong here - he provided games in return for value from Argos. Argos were happy with that arrangement. If he'd bought a cheaper item with the gift cards, they wouldn't have batted an eyelid. They don't get to change the rules just because the OP wants to use the cards for a large purchase.0

Every credit for the OP for trying though.0
