Argos won't give me my item paid for with gift cards

Hi all,
I need a bit of help.
Over the last few weeks I have been trading in used console games with Argos at various stores.
These have been mainly the same few titles as I could raise a few pounds by buying elsewhere & trading them at Argos.
They bought these from me & exchanged for gift cards.
I wanted an Ipad - that was the whole point of the excersise to get it a little cheaper - so I went to my local store to buy one.
I handed over the gift cards & they went through the till & I was given a reciept as normal & waited for my item.
Eventually the store manager came out & told me she would not give me the item paid for nor would she give me back the gift cards as she was not happy about the circumstances in which I'd obtained them. She thought that I had obtained them fraudulently. I told her what I had done & that I had reciepts to prove the games were mine to sell but she would not do anything.
I returned the next day & she said that nothing would happen until a full investigation had been carried out into wether the goods traded in were legitimate - ie not stolen or copied.
It has now been a few days & I've heard nothing. Can they legally withold my giftcards or purchased item?
Any advise would be gratefully recieved.
I wonder why you went to the trouble of visiting various stores to trade in your games and did not just take them all into one store and do one transaction?
I have not looked at the terms and conditions regarding trading games but I am guessing it would have looked odd if you went to one store with 10 games all the same title to trade in - your behaviour would however suggest you knew that questions would be asked if you traded all the games in the same store.0 -

Nowhere does the OP say he was buying in bulk, just the same title repeatedly.0 -

Or their games returning to them.
asa they are now refusing to honor the exchange then they must return the games to you as they are not their property0 -

I know. That's why I stated that very same point in my earlier post. (the one which you quoted from)0 -
Phone the head office again and ask to speak to someone with more authority, explain that your complaint is about the store manager.0

If they did elect to return the games to me then how could they prove they were the same copies I traded in?
The games would have been sent away for processing as Argos resell their pre owned games online.
Anyway the point isn't about the games.
I wanted to know as the sale transaction for the Ipad had gone throught the till & a reciept had been issued - what was the position under consumer law?0 -

Yes, but don't tell them that!0 -

well as they wont honor the exchanges then they must return the games to you, if they have sold them on then they have sold your property.
as long as you have the receipts then they must retun the games to you. use the email i provided earlier and email their execs office complaining about this and the store manager.0 -
The games are a separate transaction. That contract is concluded. The OP has got gift cards for those. It's these cards that aren't being accepted and are being retained, not the games.
The OP's question about when a contract is concluded in Argos is an interesting one. A price was offered, the OP offered to pay, and the cashier accepted and gave a receipt. One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.0 -

Even if you have sold on a commercial level, why should this be a problem.
What I would do.
If you have the receipts for the purchase of the games, then simply call the Police when you are at the store, and say someone has robbed you and you need assistance. Have a seat and then when the Police come inform them that you have called them because you have been defrauded, or that Argos has your property and they donot want to give a refund or the property.
And repeat that you callled the Police because you want your vouchers back or the property.
I think the Police would be more likely to nick the OP for wasting their time rather than dealing with the issue, in any case they would tell the OP that it's a civil matter.
I would be inclined towards the arguement that the contract had been concluded, and that OP was legally entitled to the ipad as such. I think all the OP can do is keep trying the head office until he gets someone ver senior to deal with it. where's sirmarcus when you need him?!0
