  • Received the cancellation e-mail & 25% discount. However, on checking order tracking, it still states "Order Accepted". I very much doubt that they have refunded my card...hmm....

Plus PC World sold some off after Xmas for about £200 didn't they?

Indeed they did, and a few at £99 IIRC, however, the Toshibas were a much higher spec. than the PC World ones. I believe that the price should have been £6-700.

I have just sent a short e-mail to Watchdog about this. We need someone with some legal knowledge and media clout to look into this. You can even ring Watchdog or fill in an online form. All the contact details are on the following page:

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/consumer/tv_and_radio/watchdog/contact_index.shtml

It only takes a couple of minutes to e-mail them.

For £519 you can get this from CCL:

    http://www.cclonline.com/product-info.asp?product_id=11916&category_id=85&manufacturer_id=0

    Acer Aspire AS5101AWMLI
    Turion MK36 / 1GB / Card Reader
    120GB HDD / 15.4" TFT / DVDRW
WLAN / Orbicam / Vista Home Premium

Not a bad alternative I dont think!

You can't compare Acers with Toshibas really. Toshiba's are (in my opinion) the best laptops you can get. So much so that I purchase them for our company, and im typing this on one now. Acers have extremely poor support.

  • I have just ordered one. The total cost is the laptop only not the laptop plus software so ive opted for the vista premium version before they conveniently 'sell' out of them with it being the higher priced option.

It may not be a grabbit but I needed a laptop, they have offered one at a now competitive price with the software thrown in and I can pay over a year interest free!

Well, I finally got the cancellation email.

However, as they didn't offer me the discount, I've fired back a 'What. Why?' type emailing disputing their use of their own T&Cs against my order. :D (Hey, why not, I can spare a few minutes).

The interesting part in my case is that they Had to have accepted my order, as they despatched the other item in it to me and it was received Yesterday. Thats basically 3 days in which they had my order, processed it, sent out the item they decided I could have, and only Then got around to emailing me. Tut tut. :)

I've also queried the use of a 'Pricing error' claim. As I want to see them justify how a Web Error as large as a totally wrong Product Name, Description and Image can be classified along with all the £49-49p type mistake retailers have made in the past.

There T&Cs also state: 'If we discover such an error after you have submitted
an order to us, we will contact you prior to accepting your order with
the correct details.' Nope, you didn't do that. You sent me the confirmation email, then you sent me a cancellation email. Don't quote T&Cs at me unless you are following them yourself.

(Yes, I know I won't get a laptop, so don't berate for me for bothering with the email back to them....)

If anyones after a laptop i sugest looking at the clearance area of PC World Business, prices are ex vat but are still good with the vat added. Most are open box but i purchased one for my mum's xmas present and its perfect. Only thing noticeable was the open box (as stated in advert) i saved nearly £200 on it.

You have to check regularly though. mornings are best.
