Yes, it is sad that he quoted me out of context, and ignored the valid point I was making, and instead he verbally abused me.

Before you get all holier than thou, remember that after I had carefully explained why I thought it was important to stand up to people trying to dictate language usage without good evidence to support their assertions you completely ignored that and started lecturing on argument technique - thus making it look as if your own argument had run out of steam and your were falling back on meta-argument.

Can you two racists pack it in?

This is why I call people like tyou 'twerps'.

You're so bound up in your self righteous meddling in people use of words that you ignore the real hurt that you can cause by causally harping on about things which a lot of Japanese find disturbing and humiliating.

That was something that continued for many generations as an accepted and acceptable way of life by those who were abusing the human rights of the slaves.

It's hardly comparable to a six year period when the whole world went mad.

as a matter of interest as you don't think its offensive to cal a Japanese man a "jap" would you also call a man from Pakistan by the shortened form of their countries name and if not why?

You still don't get it, do you.

You admitted that it does not have to be prosecuted as such - and it is not a court who makes that determination - so it is down to the police and or CPS to decide if there is evidence of racial motivation and act accordingly.

I imagine they get it wrong - in either direction - from time to time.

Like you I am going on opinion, and hearsay. But the police are forced to take racist and homophobic incidents seriously, and they are scared not to.

I don't know about "Jocks" (although I suspect it's the same), but "Paddy" & "Taff" is not acceptable -

When I was at school, the wood work teacher was welsh. He had an office with a plaque on it, with 'Staff' inscribed. Some wag had remove the 'S'. I don't think he thought it rude. Actually I think we all found it amusing. I don't think 'Taff' is rude. I might be mistaken.

You are offensive. Can't you learn to express an opinion without being verbally abusive?

Sorry but I cannot make head nor tail or the above paragraph. Can someone please explain it to me?

I'm afraid you have totally lost me. I have no idea what 'meta-argument' is. I was commenting on your offensiveness/aggression.

    Quite clearly, you don't

No!!! How can you not know this? The court does not make the determination, the victim decides if it is investigated as racist...the Police gather the evidence and the CPS prosecute (or not) based on what they have the best chance on securing a conviction. The courts decide if someone is innocent or guilty...that's all.

And yet you did lie - you siad I'd claimed to know Japanese when I had done no such thing.

    Then you lied about lying.
    Again No!
It was a way of finding out if you knew by reversing the empty statement you made to us. It was an ironic statement - if you can't undersatnd that, get over it.

Although, yes I admit that I do lie from time to time...never met anyone that was able to communicate that hasn't, yet but not in this thread.

    We are having a debate...

Really? Is that what you call this mud slinging...accusing me of being a racist liar? Yet, I havn't raised one bad word against you...you see, I'm far better than that.

You disagree but you're not saying I'm wrong. Really? :rotfl:
Well, if you cannot understand that point, I think you should either go back to school or give up these debates. There is a world of difference between saying "You're wrong" and "I don't agree".

"You're wrong" in relation to an opinion smacks of self importance and lack of respect for anyone who doesn't agree with you and, oh, so many other things I don't have the time to list them.

You have quite clearly realised that you have lost the arguament and resorted to this behaviour.

They damn well should take racist and homophobic incidents seriously.

And if they won't do it out of a sense of upholding the law in a fair and impartial manner then maybe they should be scared not to.
