I start today.
I came home from getting my Bank time sheet signed to find a letter from my new employer on the doorstep.
I was sweating, just in case it was a rejection letter.
Nope.
The sender was delighted to be offering me the post, confirmed my start date (today :j) and gave me a list of everything they need me to bring in for my first day.
P45, proof of NI No., proof of qualifications (but I've already brought them in ), bank details, bank account details, passport and birth certificate.
Not much then....:huh: Don't know what I'm doing, but doing it anyway... :huh:0 -
Just wanted to say good luck with the new job and I hope things get better for youHave a Bsc Hons open degree from the Open University 2015 :j:D:eek::T0

Well, first couple of weeks in.........
and let's just say I'm glad it's only part time.
I knew the job was fairly menial, but didn't realise how menial.
Pay at the end of the month depends on attending a series of inductions/mandatory training sessions and my boss has already received emails stating that I haven't attended the ones so far!!
Not only have I done so, but I've signed a variety of registers and got a bundle of paper and booklets to show for it. I was even able to name check the instructors.
The people are friendly, I'm learning the ropes (there aren't many to grasp) and getting there isn't a problem.
I'm still keeping up with the night shifts at the other place too. As it's 'as and when required' and not full time, it's doable.
So far, so good. :undecided:huh: Don't know what I'm doing, but doing it anyway... :huh:0 -
I'm not writhing often on forums like that, but I had to make an exception.
Let me just tell you first: you are such a tough cookie!
I found it vey ironic that you work in hospital, yet they struggle to take into account your condition... You would think in places like that managers would be more open minded, but I guess its only wishful thinking...
I do agree with you that help and support for suicidal/depressed people isn't great. I've been there before, I'm suicidal too.
Stress at work could take a toll on any one and its defiantly not helping when you depressed on top of that! In my case it was like a vicious circle. The more stress I had at work the more ill I was and the more time off I was taking. Then I was coming back to work just to have another pointless meeting with my boss about my attendance and performance. That was causing even more stress forcing me to take yet another time off! It was amazing how my body reacted to stress. Anything from depression, flu or cold, eating disorders, sleeping problems to acute back pains. Its like my body was forcing me to take time off and I would be catching flu every second week! I even ended up at A&E (straight from my Gp office) with my back pain yet after MRI they could not find anything physically wrong whit me! Its been over 2 years since I left this job from hell and I don't have any of this problems any more. Not even single outbreak of back problems.
I hope your new job will be better for you. But from what you are describing working in the hospital it is very stressful and hectic. Did you try applying for jobs elsewhere? I know you would be out of your comfort zone but maybe it would work out better in long term?
Wish you all the best and keep posting here if that will makes you feel better!0 -
News:
It's theoretical at the moment, but I've been asked if I want to extend my hours to 6 hours a day.
However, if it does happen, that would mean the other 'as and when' night shift job at the other hospital would be kicked into touch except at weekends.
The new hours would mean that I'd finish the one job at the start time for the other job and still have to get across the West Midlands by public transport to get to the other place.
I said I'd think about the hours extension. It would make sense though.
It's still part time, it would leave my mornings and early afternoons free and it's regular, extra money.
I wouldn't have to be stressing about whether there were enough shifts from the other job to keep me going.
They like me. It's nice to be appreciated. Don't know what I'm doing, but doing it anyway... :huh:0 -

Glad to hear this. I have been following your thread since it started. I am in admiration of you really. You really have been through the mill, and yet here you are at the other end.

It's starting to look like it's only ever going to be theoretical...
Two weeks ago, there was so much work and problems in the lab, it was bedlam. Last week there was so little going on it would have been hard to justify paying me for the hours I do now.
Apparently my new employer has a history of getting everything together, agreements and so on but after asking for funding, nothing happens.
So it might be the beginning of December, or not at all.
It's just as well the other "as and when" job has come through for me.
In the past week (Sat - Sat), I've worked over 70 hours between the two jobs.
The way the "as and when required" trust counts the hours, I've worked 13 (Sat-Sun and Sun-Mon nights) and 38 (Sun-Mon, Weds-Thurs, Thurs-Fri and Fri-Sat) hours (apparently, Sunday is the end of one week, Monday is the start of the next) and as far as the other trust are concerned, I've worked 20 hours. But within one seven day period, over 70 hours!! That doesn't include travel time.
So yesterday was a write-off. I could only shamble around until 4pm and promptly fell asleep until 11am today.
Today, I've done a little shopping, cleaning and four loads of laundry, I've got to get to "as and when" trust tomorrow to get my timesheets signed and submitted (or else I don't get paid), then get back home to go to bed, get up at 14:00 and off to do another two days of evening and nights.
The permanent job has put me on the emergency tax rate - I'll have to sort that out this week. Thursday morning is the soonest I'll be able to without falling asleep waiting to be put through though.......
Still. Could be worse. My zero hours job needs me and with Christmas coming I could use the money. ££££££ Don't know what I'm doing, but doing it anyway... :huh:0 -
There have been a couple of developments - new thread about them here in the Marriage, Relationships and Children thread. Don't know what I'm doing, but doing it anyway... :huh:0
