    News:

I've formally accepted the job at the other trust. My references could let me down however, as my current managers haven't known me for that long. If that's the case, then they may ask for a character reference.

Meanwhile, on the staff bank/zero hours front - I've trained up to do another job on a night shift. Not full time - on an as an when required basis.

The manager of the full time position told me that that was unacceptable. Either I worked for her full time or I didn't work at all.

As I had already promised shifts to the night shift boss, I said goodbye to day shift boss last Friday.

Come Tuesday and I get a text from the staff bank office - asking for volunteers for, get this, a PART TIME worker for the job I've just left. I haven't replied to that one. It is a horrendous job.

However, for the infinitely preferable night shift job, I have had only one shift this week. I've got two coming up next week.

The money I'll get next week for this weeks shift will be better that benefits, but it will be pitiful.

I'm looking for jobs left, right and centre, but once I've ruled out driving, CSCS, agencies and self employed "management" positions - there isn't anything suitable.

I've applied for only four jobs this week.

And I'm scared. I'm tired and scared. gloomy.gif

    What do I do?
 Don't know what I'm doing, but doing it anyway...

The references are still pending and I've had a 'phone call from OH.

Their only quibble is the fact that I've haven't had all my measles jabs.

I've had mumps, been vaccinated against rubella but what with the outbreak and all, I may need a booster for measles.

I'm still hoping for the best here but still looking for jobs as well.

The new job was meant to start today.

It didn't as my references are still outstanding.

I emailed the HR bod who's looking after my recruitment only for her to email me back to say that one of the referees I gave has referred her to my old TM.

The same TM responsible for getting the job offer withdrawn the last time.!!!!

I've sent my old TM an email asking if we could discuss this, to receive a reply that there was nothing to discuss, it wouldn't be appropriate and that the reference would be honest and fair.

Sure. Like it was the last time. :(

I had two shifts last week. I've got nothing this week and only one next week.

I cannot afford to lose another job offer.

Ginger, sorry things are still tough. Only just came across your thread and dont have much advice to give but think you've done really well, even people without medical conditions would get worked up about this kind of thing. I have/am suffering from depression but luckily it doesn't appear to be drug resistant. I feel for anyone that has to deal with this kind of illness long term.
Faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.

I've been in to work to attend my last counselling session today and while I was there, went to an empty office to apply for an internal vacancy.

I met a few former team members in the corridors and caught up with some scandalous gossip. Honestly, just as I was starting to miss the place. :D

I've written an email to the department team leader who offered me the job, explaining what's happened and offering a character reference who knows both me and her manager.

Her manager, by the way, is a former colleague of my old TM and, guess what? They hate each others' guts as well. :rotfl: Can this woman make no friends?!

It's reassuring to know that it's not just me then. :D

I've written to my old TM's boss to ask him to chivvy things along - I've had no reply. Another one of the team has resigned and is working their notice too. That's 5 members of staff she'll be missing by the end of June.

Meanwhile - I've received a 'phone call from the boss for whom I do night shifts giving/offering 10 shifts in June!! :j

I only need six to tick things over and pay the bills. I can survive another month or two at least. Woo hoo! :)

I'm still applying for jobs too. Just in case the one I've been offered falls through.

You have the right to see a reference and challenge it.

Yeah, when it's written and submitted.

As it is, the reference is still outstanding and the job could be withdrawn because of the length of time it's taken so far.

Offer another reference! You can't be responsible for someone not returning one so offer an alternative who will respond. I think it would be harsh to rescind a job offer because a reference didn't arrive. I work in the public sector and we'd seek an alternative.

I have. The Line Manager who agreed to write a reference is on Maternity Leave and currently doesn't have a works address which is unacceptable to the new employer.

I've offered character referees but they don't have access to my employment file and so many people have left and arrived, that those who do have access to my employee file haven't known me for 10 minutes - hence the referral to the TM. Who is a cow.
