Barclaycard 11% cashback application problem

Think you may be being slightly unfair to BCard. A £250 limit card is only going to be barely commercially viable for them (if at all) - the only reason they'd really give it is if you're a borderline decision and they want to monitor activity on the card for a while before deciding whether to raise the limit.
Other replies here imply that most successful applicants have a limit they're happy with (and that enables them to get the max £100 cashback).
The question then is whether you actually want the card or not. If you'd rather they declined you, then cancel the card and be done with it. Otherwise, take your free £10 (net of balance transfer fee) and have a beer :-)For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also ...0 -
My wife applied for this card and after seeing the press with regards to people not getting the 11% cashback rang the 0800 number from an earlier post on here. After 30 minutes on old, she spoke to someone with a minimal grasp if English who continually told her that "she was checking her details". After 10 minutes and the wife's growing frustration, the women disconnected the call. She applied for her card on 18th November via MSE but it doesn't look good. An email was duly dispatched to barclaycard. Will keep you posted!0

Hi all. My husband applied for this card on Wednesday 16th November after I saw the email on the site, and he used the MSE link to apply. As with everybody else, no mention of cashback when card received, but when he rang to activate his card and do the balance transfer, the chap confirmed the deal. There was still nothing showing on the online system about the cashback, so he sent a message but did not receive a reply. When he received his e-statement today there was still nothing about the cashback, so he rang and was told he had a Freedom Platinum card not a Cashback Platinum card.
After I did some searching I found this thread, and also the following article which may be of use to some:
http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/cardsloans/article-2070706/Barclaycard-confuses-customers-11-cashback-deal-lasted-days.html?ito=feeds-newsxml
Most interesting extracts of this article are:
However, a spokesman from Barclaycard told This is Money that anyone who successfully applied for the card during the 18 to 21 November would get the 11 per cent cash back.
A spokesman said: ‘This very popular incentive was only available for a limited period and closed on our website on the evening of Friday 18 November. In addition, a link to the product from MoneySavingExpert remained live until the evening of the 21st. Any customer who applied for the card between the 15th and 21st and was successful will qualify for 11 per cent cashback on all purchases until 31 December capped at £100, subject to them transferring a balance to Barclaycard.’
And also the following:
A spokesman from MoneySavingExpert said: ‘As This is Money will know, banks can often be a bit lax in sending all the T&Cs of a product to customers – so when MSE includes offers we make sure we have all the details in writing, and that’s what happened in this case. We were delighted to be able to feature such a cracking deal, and despite some people being given bad information by Barclaycard’s customer service team, everyone who applied through MSE has had the 11% cashback honoured.’
‘If anyone has any outstanding problems, and applied after reading about the product on MoneySavingExpert.com, they can get in touch and we’ll nudge Barclaycard to sort it out.’
My husband tried calling Barclays back to discuss this with them, and got nowhere. He explained to four different people what had happened and they obviously had no prior knowledge of the issues with MSE. The third of the four staff registered a complaint and was trying to transfer him to Customer Relations, but they were busy, so they put him through to his boss. She wouldn't acknowledge that there was an issue, but ended up making a goodwill offer of £50 to get rid of him. He said he would not accept a penny less than £100 and was prepared to run the risk of getting nothing to made a stand. She then agreed to send it to complaints and let it run the natural course. He also said that if he gets a penny less than £100 he will go to the Ombudsman. She said she'll mention that to CR.
Not very happy with Barclaycard at the moment.......I will email MSE and see what happens.............0 -
I also had lots of problems with the application process and Barclaycard's systems were always down, when I managed to get through to the applications team nobody seemed to know anything about an 11% cashback deal.I presumed my application had got lost in the ether, until yesterday the card actually arrived, there is no mention anywhere on the paperwork about the 11% cashback but when I activated the card I asked them to confirm which they did eventually do, remember to do the balance transfer minimum £100.00 as soon as you can as it takes about 5 days to process and the 11% is only available till 31 December.0

I made an application for your Platinum credit card with 11% cash back on the 17th November. When the application was complete it said that I would be contacted within 5 days to confirm the status of my request. After 10 days I contacted customer services who said that my application was still open and I should call back in a few days for an update. I have called back today and been told that the request is still in an open state.
In order to progress my application I was told that i would have to write a letter to head office!!! What kind of operation are Barclarycard running? Why am I, the potential customer being asked to write a letter to find out the status of my application when I am already speaking to their customer services department? It beggars belief.
I have an existing Barclaycard due to the misfortune of Citibank having sold off Egg. I have to say that I am concerned about staying with them if this is the way they run their operation.0 -

My situation is identical to yours.... I've phoned up 5 or 6 times now. The first said I would be getting it on the 23rd, then I was continually fobbed off before finally today being told today that my application was on hold and I would need to write to them to get an update. I am dismayed at the service from Barclaycard, which requires you to write a letter to find out the status of an application. Is there a contact at MSE that we can use to try and resolve this on behalf of all of us that are having these unacceptable problems?0 -

Hi Everyone.
Thanks a lot for your comments. We wanted to apologise for any confusion resulting from our 11% cashback offer last month which was available between the 15th and 18th November on the Barclaycard website, and through a link on moneysavingexpert until 21st November.
Everyone who applied for the card and was accepted will get the 11% cashback. Cashback can be earned up until the end of December and the maximum amount that can be earned is £100. This will be added to accounts in January and will appear on your February statement. We’re sorry that there was no reference to the cashback in the materials sent out with the cards and that some people were given incorrect information when they phoned us – we’ve heard the feedback and we’ll take it on board for next time.
When things go wrong we want to say sorry and try to put them right. We hope this has clarified the situation. As we can’t answer individual account queries on this forum, please contact us on 0844 811 9111 or customer.relations@barclaycard.co.uk if you have any specific questions.
