We don't know what the disagreement is about, it may or may not be childish.

And a funeral with lots of people is very different to christmas with just a few people - at a funeral the two sisters would not have to talk to each other at all, they could probably arrange it so they did not even have to see each other if they sat far enough apart. Rather different at Christmas, where they would have to talk to each other.

Nor at Christmas. I hear streamers and party poppers are entirely vocal free.

I imagine the Mother is not demanding they converse with each other, she just wants to celebrate Christmas with her family, its the least she deserves for giving them a life to act so childishly stubborn with.

And that was the prevailing attitude that for a long while made me avoid talking to my mother at all.

I will choose who I spend time with. No one else. And I owe no one for "creating" me. This is not the 1700s.

Disagree completely, it is completely childish, immature and stubborn, to allow a disagreement between two mature siblings to come between a Mothers wishes for a family get together.

    Yes, I agree.

Surely they can be 'civil' with each other without making conversation or playing 'happy families' etc.

The mother has not asked them to be together.

Oh I misread the OP, they aren't going to even be at the house at the same time? Then I don't see what they have to complain about.

Sorry Poppyoscar, that was to marleyboy who seems to be pitching that having given birth, mothers are then entitles to have offspring do their bidding thereafter.

I hope the OP can find an answer that lets her see both her children and stay on good terms with each!

Yes, as I understand it the mother has asked one to leave on Christmas Eve at 4.00pm before the other one arrives and she has refused. They are both now saying if the other one is going to be there then they will not go.

Never heard anything like it in my life TBH. Dictating to the parents like that.
