  • Hello im new here and been looking into Appen, Lionbridge and Leap force and debating which to sign up to. I'm UK based. I have a degree want something to do from home. But which to sign up for as i believe you cant be a member of all of them. I would like around 20 hours a week. But do you get this? Any pointers and advise would be great. Had some good info about lionbridge and leap force but not too sure about Appen. thanks everyone xx

You HAVE to work 4 hours per day Mon - Fri, so yes the work is there. It is more stable and regular than the others, but for that reason its harder to get into and harder to stay.

The difference with Appen is that you have to pass weekly quality assessments, which if you have a read through the last 10 or so pages, you'll see that a lot of us have had problems with. If you fail to meet the metrics, you get removed and made to take a re-qualification test, so even if you pass it, that means a week off, and obviously a week without pay. If you fail this test three times in succession, your contract is terminated, which is what happened to me a couple of weeks back. Saying that, I did manage to survive with them for almost 11 months, and made an average of £628 per month during the first 10. That average would've been higher if I'd chosen to do any extra hours, which I never did. Made hardly anything in my final month as I spent all but one day of it on review, obviously. :)

Hi guys, another WSE here, been with them for a while now - lucky enough to keep a few numbers out the red but waiting for the day.. (probably sooner than i think as I need a massively improbable audit swing next week!). I agree with everything said about this job. It really is mostly about luck and keeping enough concentration to know an RTA when you see one. Audits for me are the killer, completely unpredictable, almost always borderline too. Love waking up to a pile of audits!

Just got an invitation for the Glass project again..

See it's less queries than before, but obviously as such the earning opportunity isn't as good.

Don't think I'll bother with it this time since I'm having to do 4 hours of Web Evaluation also.

Nothing in my inbox. Again.

Will assume they're either asking the same people who did it last time, or that I need to take the US spelling test as well as the UK one, then..

80% audits against me last fortnight, someone must be filling their boots! Unless i'm being audited against a supercomputer - likely considering how ultra trivial they are.. non-priority, never more than 1 off!

Been on the 5 project approaching 2 years, never found it this difficult to stay focussed to make the hours. My metrics have been iffy since the work became pretty much 100% holes, for me anyway. SLR awaits!

That's really unfortunate MallRat. The email did mention my previous participation, so they might only have sent out invitations to those who did the work last time. As I say though, the earning potential was quite low this time, whereas before the earning opportunity was quite good (although the work made FN look exciting!)

Sorry to hear about your metric difficulties diddly_squat. I am very envious of you having avoided SLR before though, considering how long you've worked for Appen! Certainly a much better record than mine..

Out of interest, how common is it that people miss enough metrics to be removed on the 5 project? Is it a weekly occurrence, or do quite a few people manage to meet enough metrics to avoid removal week after week? On the FN project it is not unusual for half the roster to be removed per week..!

I hope you don't have to face a SLR, but if you do, I hope everything goes well for you, and I fully understand the lack of motivation feeling.

This would be my 3rd time on SLR - forgot to say, always the same each time - RTAs always comfortable but miss the rest.

The 5 roster looks barebones at the minute, probably the smallest ive seen, looks half its size since the turn of the year. Looking at the metrics, 1 or 2 per week get removed which is a sizeable chunk!

The roster metrics have usually been a sea of red since late last year, felt like there was an auditor change at some point then that messed things up, that and the disappearance of the larger sets. I feel sorry for any newcomers, seems almost impossible at the minute, battling inconsistent or trick RTAs and being audited up to your eyeballs!

Interesting to hear that from you diddly_squat. Unfortunately I think the client/ABH are in the process of shooting themselves in the foot with their ultra-rigid grading system. It does seem we're at the mercy of changing auditor interpretation. Frequency of people going on review and being fired is definitely up. On top of that there was the thing with new recruits having to go through a new 20 hour 'test' before entering production. All in the name of improvement but - how exactly are raters supposed to get better when the instructionals and guidelines are still the same old contradictory stuff?

Got the email for the google glass thing but saw it too late! Not overly fussed, as it gave me a hoarse voice doing it last time... Will be keeping an eye out in case the transcription task pops up again, don't want to miss that one :)
