Ok - I received confirmation that I passed the pre-assessment. I need to fill out an NDA now. I have a question; it states that I have to do 30 hours self-study & 20 hours simulated production; does anyone know if this is paid or unpaid? I did email them and ask, but got a very vague reply....0

Training is paid (it should show a training stipend in the original e-mail), but here's the doozy - if you fail the training, you get nothing!0

headcrash27 it just seems to be a matter of waiting until you get offered the work. I waited a number of months. The work is quite irregular, we seem to be getting one day a week at the moment. I really do like the work though, so I can't complain too much.

I just wonder why some people get offered it and others don't. I wonder if it's anything to do with the spelling tests? I've completed the english spelling tests but not any of the others.0 -

I've only ever had one email regarding transcription. Not sure if it was Google Glass or not, but it was a one-off thing that took about an hour. I also only took the English spelling test, so yes, I'd assume that probably is the reason.0 -
How good is the pay for the transcription job compared to WSE? I saw the position offered for my country but if it pays even less than WSE I'm not sure if it's even worth applying.0

Some of the transcription and translation work is a very low rate of pay. I think I was paid about $2.50 for 40 minutes of work once. You'd make more per hour from almost any of the freelancer websites.0

Does anyone know if you are allowed to do transcription work with Appen whist doing WSE for another company?0

@doseisan the current project talked about in this thread can give you over minimum wage without having to rush, I think. All my assignments with them have been at least that, but then again I do type very fast and I have only done a few jobs for them.
@Catwoman, no conflict there because Appen is just the transcription part of the company afaik. The work's completely unrelated.0
