NCP say wrong ticket bought at Milton Keynes

Last month my wife was issued with a PCCN by NCP at Milton Keynes shopping centre, stating she had not displayed a valid ticket. My wife had purchased a ticket for the period she was there from the nearest ticket machine, and it was clearly displayed on the dashboard.

Apparently NCP took over responsibility of policing the car park the month before (September).

According to some of the postings here, we have apparently made the first fundamental error, and entered into the appeals process.

Predictably, the appeal was turned down, with the following reasoning.

“Whilst I appreciate you have purchased a pay and display ticket, this is only valid in Council Car Parks. Please be advised National Car Parks operate in private car parks and therefore I cannot accept this as valid payment for Milton Keynes 2.”
My wife says she was not aware of any differentiation of ownership or policing between the location she parked, and the machine. Also, there is no indication on the ticket who is the issuer.

We would be very grateful for any comments/opinions/advice about this situation.

  • Just ignore them, its a pity you appealed but its done now.

I know that ignoring them is the best option, but are they saying that the machine that was located in the car park was dispensing tickets for a different car park?

Is there a council run car-park right next door to the NCP car-park with that ticket machine close by?

If not they are telling lies

Ignore NCP, the most they can sue you for is the damages they have suffered (ie whatever the pay and display amount is for the time you spent in the car-park)

    @corbyboy, @kite2010

    Thanks for your quick response

There is council parking and shopping centre parking in close proximity, and it does not appear very clear which bit is which.

    MKCentre have acknowledged this.

The machine which my wife bought the ticket from, was the nearest one to where she parked.

She is/was not aware of any differention in the car parking administration

Almost everything I see and read says ignore this as they will never pursue it, because there are to many flaws, if this really is the case why is any ticket paid?

Surely if all the reasons for not paying, no debt, speculative invoice, not a fine etc. etc are true, then no ticket should be paid that has been issued by a private contractor?

You are reading far too much into this fake PCN and not reading enough information. And you did not appeal. There is NO APPEAL. It's not a fine and does not affect your credit rating. You should not have tried to 'appeal' (think about it!!). Would you write an appeal to a phishing emailer?

It's simple, we ONLY needed to know it's a private parking ticket. No other info is relevant. You are right, NO fake PCN should be paid!

Ignoring the PPC and debt collector letters is easy, just like ignoring a series of phishing emails. I have ignored one myself as have most regulars on here. We KNOW it's a scam and that's why we are here!

Still not sure? What about reading this light-hearted thread...

HTH - now please read the stickies and watch the Watchdog video. It's cunningly hidden in the sticky thread 'welcome, please read before posting'! And look at the top sticky thread on this sub-forum too so you are ready for the rest of their pathetic letter-chain of threats.

See my signature - Martin Lewis agrees that these are just cowboys.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

    Spot on there.

Breach of contract only allows you to recover any financial losses as a result of the breach. How much do you think the parking company lost because your wife purchased the "wrong" ticket? Nothing!

Yes I had read that, but even Martin's article said "Tickets are often invalid". The bit that concerns me is the word 'often'.

the problem with your sig is that Martin Lewis says they're not fines and then tells people to look in his Parking Tickets, FINES & parking, sub forum... So this section gives people the impression that they're fines.

Although... if the OP paid the council to park their but it's an NCP car park.... The council must owe the NCP; if it was me i'd be very tempted to have some fun and send back an email / letter advising that I'd had legal advice, that the payment was paid to the council and therefore NCP now need to approach the council to reclaim the money they took for services provided by the NCP.

    You have three choices :
ignore them and put up with lots of threat letters: Works every Time
Appeal, argue and put with twice as many threat letters, Still works but wastes time energy and effort
Fall for the scam and pay : attracts more bogus fake fines in late payment charges.
