  • wow ! what a response!
thanks for all the information, but here's a few other concerns.

    1. The whirlpool sixthsense machine sounds good. I want a fast wash at 40 degrees as the 30 degree wash just doesn't do the job on anything the kids have worn.

    2. the black gunk in the soap drawer is more complicated than that. The roof of the soap drawer has lots of tiny holes that the water feeds through down into the doap drawer. the gunk is from the water running through all the time. i can't clean it because the roof is fixed so i cant clean behind it. Currently i am squirting it with dettol mould and mildew remover and then flushing it out by spraying it with the hose which i drag in through the kitchen window!!! pain in the a to say the least !!

    3. I know what ecoballs are but still can't get my head around how they actually work, so can anyone enlighten me ?? I'm willing to give that one a go .
working my way through and pressing the thanks buttons now!!

Careful putting mould remover in there, that is lethal stuff! Put it on a really hot wash afterwards if you must.

Baby bottle cleaners are great for getting in there and scrubbing them, eucalyptus oil is a much friendlier mildew/mould remover, or maybe vinegar. Make up a dish and scrub it with the brush.

http://www.ecoballsdirect.co.uk/ eco balls, there are cheaper versions, some say they work, some say they don't.
One day I might be more organised...........

Yeah thats where mine was, I used to get a tooth brush and scrub it and poke some wire into the holes to clean them out. The water still runs through there but because of the powder bits get left behind and it causes the mould etc. Like I said now I use liquid in the machine drum and I've not had it back again.

My detergent drawer comes out. I use half the recommended amount and don't have trouble with clogging. My 'quick' programme takes about an hour I think, but one of my clients has a machine with a 30 minute prog. and it has successfully cleaned white towels and white shirts in that time :) I heard of a 15 minute one but I dont think thats really long enough especially if u got boys like mine who pee the bed :(

  • Hi simbasweetie
Here is a review about eco balls, not the make I used, mine were 7.99 i think from lakeland, but a good review telling you what happens when you use them
make sure though you dont put too much in the machine as the balls need room to aeriate the water, thats how they work. if you remember way back when we all went over to automatic washing machines and we all said, how can automatic powder/liquid work if there are no bubbles???? well it the same for eco balls, it is hard to get your head around the fact that you dont need powder or liquid.

or just put eco balls reviews into google!

    they do work!

just one last thing, lakeland have a money back guarantee, so if you are not completely satisfied, send them back!

My Zanussi takes 2 hours 19 mins to do a 40 degree wash  I do about 3 full loads a day so it takes all day. It has a 30 min 30 degree wash which I use whenever possible.

I've never actually timed mine but I know it takes at least 2 hours, even a quick wash takes around an hour. It's the only reason I end up doing a load every day as I would never manage if I had to try to do it all in one day. I used to have a twintub when I first got married and I used to hate the thing then. Now I wish I had room for another one!

The spin on my machine is very good, some things come out practically dry.
