I got sooo fed up with it taking all day to do 4 washes and the fact that European machines wash in like an eggcup full of water and won't remove cat hair that I bought an American toploader. I've had it for 4 years and others I know who have them say I should get 20 years usage from it, so for just over £500 I think that's a bargain, yes it's huge but it has it's own corner in the gargage, and I can wash 2 bath sheets, 8 bath towels, 8 hand towels and a motly assortment of face cloths in once go. I wouldn't change back now.

Fastest wash (mini load size) 14 minutes

    Standard Everday Wash 28 minutes

Longest wash (with pre-wash) 45 minutes

I must admit they had these large toploaders in australia when we travelled round there, at first I thought they looked so weird but they did wash well and quick and you could get a lot in them, we said next time we need one we're gonna look into getting one imported.

I have a servis machine had it for 7 years now and its till runs as well now as when it was new.

A standard 40 degree wash takes about an hour, and then 60 degree 1 hour 10 mins. I never use the boil wash. there is an economy wash programme too which takes about 45 mins.

We use the quick wash all the time - under 30 mins and I would never buy a machine without this option.

Due to water shortages in Australia their government are encouraging people to buy front loaders like ours. There is some sort of financial incentive to do this, can't remember what though. It was on Wanted down under last week.
I have a servis w/machine and always use the quick wash option which is 39mins for a 40 deg wash.
  • I also have a bosch and found the wash time at 40 was 55 ish minutes, anyway, some time ago I purchased some ecoballs, from lakeland, you use them instead of powder or liquid, lakeland is not the only place to buy them, anyway, if you can be bothered to stand and watch the machine, as soon as the wash cycle finishes, at around the 15-20 minute mark, turn off and turn straight to spin as the eco balls do not need a rince cycle at all because there are no suds to get rid of, it is the rince cycle that takes all the time, this way you save a lot of time as the wash/spin only takes about 25-30 minutes. it also saves water if you are on a meter. Believe me it is a huge saving! and of course saving electric as well. You dont need conditioner as your clothes come out soft with the eco balls, but if you love the smell of conditioner, put it, watered down, in the wash powder dispenser at the start.

When I was in Currys or Comet (sorry, can't remember which as they are almost next door to each other) I saw that all the washing machines had details on the labels of how long they took for a cotton wash and for a 40deg wash. I was surprised how much they varied.

My AEG Oko Lavamat has a 'quick wash' function which takes 39 mins at 40 degrees. Had it 6 years and no probs, except that because it's an 'eco' model, I don't feel it adds sufficient water at the beginning, so I top it up a bit. But fine apart from that.

I also have a AEG Oko Lavamat, but mine is about 9 years old (still going strong). I don't have a 'quick wash' function that I can see - is that one of the programs? I use program 3 which takes about 1 hour 10 minutes, and would love to use a shorter/quicker program

Hi TKP. Mine is the 72620 update model? To the right of the dial, first line of buttons, third one down is labelled 'quick wash'? Which ever program you use it seems to reduce the wash time by half. Must admit when I bought it, I didn't pay much attention to this feature, but in fact I have rarely, if ever, used the full-length washes - which are 80+ mins upwards. So I always assumed it was a standard feature - but judging by other posters here, maybe not?

The washer in my house is a Bendix, and a 40deg wash takes at least 90 minutes, although I haven't tried it. It's a new machine, but it's the slowest and noisiest that I've ever used; the spin cycle sounds like a plane taking off and we can't use it after 8pm as it's just so slow and noisy that the flat downstairs complain! The quick wash doesn't get clothes very clean, and is no less noisy. If I were you, I wouldn't buy a Bendix washer!
