Just an associated note. The easiest way to make your machine last longer is to leave the door open after the wash. that way the water remaining in the machine evaporates and does less damage (metal + water = rust).

    wow ! what a response!
thanks for all the information, but here's a few other concerns.

    1. The whirlpool sixthsense machine sounds good. I want a fast wash at 40 degrees as the 30 degree wash just doesn't do the job on anything the kids have worn.

On the whirlpool sixthsense, as I said you can still have it on quick wash at
30,40,50 & 60 degrees. As a previous poster said it adds about 5/10mins on each addition. I quite often use mine at 40 degrees (as said kids clothes extremley dirty) and this normally takes 36mins again you can still have it spin at 1200rpm or go down to 800rpm. If on occasion I do use it at 60 I think on the quick wash it is still under an hour. Hope this helps.

  • I have a Hotpoint 7.5kg and a 40c takes 1hr 25mins. It only runs on cold and is 3 months old. Very energy efficient though:D A 50c takes 2hrs.

I have a Hotpoint 6kg Ultima and the fastest cycle I have is 30c which takes 30 mins, which is great, even on the kids mucky uniforms. Longest cycle is 2hr 10mins odd which is 95c cotton wash which I do on my towels once a week.

I love those american top loaders - would love one. They just look so cool and laundretteish.

I have one of those - got it from Costco - takes up to 8Kg and washes a quick wash at 30 mins - other washes are fast (well they seem fast) too and I love it. It is huge but I stuck it in the utility area and its fine. :j :j

I have a quick wash option which takes 30 mins and another that takes about 1 hour but the 30 minute one does not clean anything and the one hour one doesn't clean very well and everything comes out absolutely dripping wet so I only ever use the standard on one which takes 2 hours

My current one takes 1 hour 10 minutes and has a hole in the seal of the door. It is 25 years old but works fine. Anyone know how to seal it up?

I had the same prob with mine a year or so ago. I rang our local hardware type shop and told them the model and they told me they could replace the seal for £90!!!!! or I could buy the seal for £14 and do it myself. So I bought the sodding seal and did it myself. It took a while as I had to take the top of the machine off (!) to get to the space which enabled me to reach the screw on the door seal ring! But well worth the effort and saved loads!

    I have 2 zanussi WM's.. before these 2 I had a different 2 Zanussi's.

Personally I wouldn't ahve anything other than a Zanussi, apart from a Bosch which are a little out of our price range for the higher spin speeds which I want.

Both machines I have at the moment are 1600 spin speeds. One has 5.5kg a 'normal' 40' wash of 1 hour 57 minutes and has a very good quick wash of 50 minutes, the other takes..7kg load, 2 hours 20 minutes and has a fairly good quick wash of 30 minutes.. I'd not recommend it for whites though or heavily soiled stuff, but that is not what it is meant for.

They wash fantastically well, they spin brilliantly. They very very rarely develop a fault. I have nightmare tales with whirlpool, hotpoint & Indesit... just don't go there!!!

ALL the machines I could find last July when buying my latest one were cold fill.. I think it is something to do with the energy consumption and EU regulations. You 'could' put it on a hot supply rather than a cold one but you'd not be able to wash any woollens or silk as it would be wrecked. (I did do this with my dishwasher though!!)

Zanussi, bosch or is you are feeling excessively rich now you are a member here.. AEG or Miele! (Dyson machines are a bag of rhubarb as well! bit like their crappy vac's)

just a question, on any 10 yo Whirlpool WM, what would be the shortest, most efficient cycle?

    Wool, delicates, non colourfast cotton...

I just forget to time it as I go and do other stuff around the house...
