What I can say is that at the conclusion of a switch submission TheEnergyShop sends a confirmation email which includes an application reference. I do not know if uSwitch works in a similar way, but I would be disappointed enough to consider uSwitch "not fit for purpose" if they don't.
I changed via uSwitch and did get an email from them. Can't remember if it had a reference number on it though. It did then take them a couple of days to forward my request to Scottish Power.

Yes i think i will owe them money. I'll cancel my DD and any i owe - i'm sure i can take the 'slip' to the bank? that'll work right?

Let the final bill go through and EDF collect what is owed. Then cancel your DD. EDF should stop collecting your monthly payments anyway and cancel your DD, but given their track record, I'd cancel it myself after everything is settled.

Another example of how Edf customer service is on the ball - through Uswitch I started the proces of switching away from SV7 on the 8th December. Two days later I told EdF via an online message via my customer page that I intended to switch to another supplier but to avoid risk of penalty charges not before 1st January, and also to tell them that under these circumstances I do not expect any charges for use until the switch went through to be at a higher rate. This was acknowledged in the normal way with the usual promise that they would respond within 10 working days.

Just had a phone call from them saying they're sorry I'm thinking of leaving, can we talk about it? Given that I only had a 14 day cooling off period from initiating the switch this call was far too late even if I could have been persuaded to stay. I would have thought that in any professional operation my telling them I was leaving would have triggered a much more rapid response.

Rather childish I accept but when he identified himself I also told the bloke from EdF that I was going to put him on hold and play him awful music for 40 minutes before I would speak to him as that what EdF have generally done with me when I have rung them in the past (I didn't actually do so of course). Oddly enough he didn't really seem to get or appreciate the point I was making.

Just to deal with that point of your post because there is a misunderstanding there. The losing supplier is not informed of the switch (by the gaining supplier) until the expiry of the cooling-off period. You are right that it is then "too late to cancel" but that is the agreed industry process. The "sorry" call or letter is not supposed to be a retention opportunity but to detect erroneous transfer such as "slamming".

    You are right there.

I understand that one of the purposes of their call may have been as a precaution against "slamming" but their man did make an effort to try and get me to stay with them but gave up when he realised that as well as being dissatisfied at their customer service I had done the sums.

I did tell EdF via their site that I intended to switch more or less at the same time as I gave Uswitch the go ahead so if they had bothered to read my message at the time (and I suspect they did not) they had ample time to talk to me before the cooling off period expired.
  • Start the switch with your new supplier then a couple of days later tell EDF you are leaving, and you want your prices held as it stated in the letter you got at the end of November.
On the letter you got at the end of November about OS7 coming to an end, it stated that if are changing supplier let them know, and as long as the new supplier contacts them within 15 days of you telling EDF they wil hold your OS7 prices until your transfer is complete.

I rang yesterday to tell them and they confirmed this is correct.

I dont know if anyone else has completed their switch yet..
But mine went through on the 16th January..

And I can confirm I have my final gas bill and they did freeze my prices for OS7 after the 31st December :T

I havn't had my final electric bill yet so wont celebrate just yet :rotfl:

Ahhh This is what I was looking for in this thread.

I am with EDF and am so confused with their billing. I have been on Online saver 7 since last year but when I look at my statements for both my gas and electricity I have only have paid £800 or so odd pound for 1 year!!!

This is cheap as I would expect my bill to be well over £1k... What is going on here.

When I look at my statements from EDF, confused is not the word!!! as all the bills are in CR? but a steady monthly Direct debit comes out...

All I want EDF to do is give me the actual amount that I need to pay... they seemed to have confused things.

What are my options as I have received a letter to say that they will be moving me over to a 'standard (variable) tariff and looking at it doesnt seem to be a good deal any more.

When I look at price comparison sites should I just look at my usage and put these figures in to give me an accurate summary?

    Thanks

I am just as confused. Calculated from my energy charges (not my fixed direct debit) - it seems I've only been charged £650?! However my quotes from comparison website now estimate £1000 if I was to stick with their variable tariff. I can't understand how this works!

I'm still on standard tariff and also wondering if should wait until february to see what the prices are going to be with the 5% cut. Using comparison websites right now won't help as this won't factor in the 5% drop in feb will it? According to comparison websites, I will probably only save about £80 and I would have to switch to first utility (who I haven't heard many good things about). Would supposedly get another £40 from Simply Switch according to Martin's page. Switching to Npower would get me £90 cashback via TCB but the actual tariff wouldn't save me anything and I haven't heard great things about them either! Honestly, i have received all my bills from EDF and so far.. haven't had any major problems.

I was under the impression that EDF is only cutting its Gas prices.

NPower's Feb price cut is showing on the comparison sites today, according to a meassage I saw on another thread. I am in the same position as you: still on EDF standard variable. Thank goodness I did not fix in December. Am hesitiating over whether or not to fix now on NPower or OVO as there are huge savings on both.

Here is the why the prices are so different:

    1. OS7 was an exceptionally cheap tariff.
    2. There were two price rises during the last 12 months.
    - Both of which would have hit your bills at different intervals so you were not paying them for the whole 12 months.
    3. Both price rises have been included for the full 12 months ahead. (possibily not including the small price reduction)
    4. You are on a standard tariff - the worst type of tariff to be on

    Hi,

My swap when through about 5 weeks ago. I owed about £14 for electric, but was in credit for my gas by £160.

They took the payment, but havenot got my refund yet. I have tried ringing them several times for 30/40 minutes without success. I dont have aceess to my bill online.

Whats the best way to get my money back?

    Thanks

    Barry
