EDF Online Saver Version 7

isotonic_uk wrote: »Ahhh This is what I was looking for in this thread.
I am with EDF and am so confused with their billing. I have been on Online saver 7 since last year but when I look at my statements for both my gas and electricity I have only have paid £800 or so odd pound for 1 year!!!
This is cheap as I would expect my bill to be well over £1k... What is going on here.
When I look at my statements from EDF, confused is not the word!!! as all the bills are in CR? but a steady monthly Direct debit comes out...
All I want EDF to do is give me the actual amount that I need to pay... they seemed to have confused things.
What are my options as I have received a letter to say that they will be moving me over to a 'standard (variable) tariff and looking at it doesnt seem to be a good deal any more.
When I look at price comparison sites should I just look at my usage and put these figures in to give me an accurate summary?
Thanks
When were readings last entered or taken?
The EDF online "system" will show the balance of the DDs taken, but only the usage up to the last reading. If you don't give them readings, it won't show a realistic balance. I don't enter readings online because they keep adjusting my DD upwards every time I do, when I know it is more than enough to cover my usage.
If you are put onto a standard tariff, that will almost certainly be expensive for you, so shop around for a better one.
If you have a bill from around a year ago, or can see it online, work out your actual annual usage using your latest meter readings and put that into a comparison site. It's easy with electricity, but involves a simple formula with gas to convert meter units to kWh. Just look at one of your bills to see what the ratio is and you won't be far off.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. That potentially should be a worrry. Normally the losing supplier is informed immediately at the conclusion of the "cooling-off" period (an automatic process) at which point you might expect to receive a "sorry" letter from EDF.
Something is not right. I suggest you raise your concerns with E.ON.
I seem to be in a catch22 - uswitch say they sent the details but they can't query it with them till 23rd January (45 days), and E.ON say they haven't received any details from uswitch and I should kick them.
Which of them is to blame do you think?0 -
Which of them is to blame do you think?
I don't like the word "blame", I prefer to work around the problem.
I have used uSwitch previously and found them reliable though I now use https://www.theenergyshop.com
What I can say is that at the conclusion of a switch submission TheEnergyShop sends a confirmation email which includes an application reference. I do not know if uSwitch works in a similar way, but I would be disappointed enough to consider uSwitch "not fit for purpose" if they don't.
So I would say the question to ask is where is the uSwitch confirmation email. I do not think it would be reasonable to wait 45 days to get a copy of that from uSwitch. No copy - your question is answered.0 -
So just to clarify (I have only just caught up with this as the wife opened the bill and stashed it with junk mail) as they have forced people onto the Standard tariff from 1st Jan, I signed up to the SV7 back in 7-Jan 2011, I can now switch to another tariff without being penalised? Please support my thanks button if I have been of any help

Got my welcome to letter on Friday from nPower.
It states they will start from 26th Jan and that i need to give them meter reading within 5 days. No problem - done...
Would i also need to ring EDF and give them this reading too? Or will nPower take care of it all?
Cheers0 -

The supplier you are switching to takes care of it.
But if you've got nothing better to do and LOTS of time to spare, phone EDF.

No as victor2 points out but note the irony in the reponse.
Actually there something to be alert to regarding Edf. In theory the final bill will follow in due course when/if NPower obliges and Edf billing system permitting, but do you think you have a existing debit or credit balance, are you currently paying by direct debit and how will Edf either collect or refund any balance?
These, particulary the direct debit issue, are things to discuss (agree) with Edf. You may wish to cancel the direct debit for certainty. When I last tried, weekday morning calls were answered very quickly. I will be trying myself tomorrow as they have yet again hiked my direct debit without justification.:(0 -
Yes i think i will owe them money. I'll cancel my DD and any i owe - i'm sure i can take the 'slip' to the bank? that'll work right?0
-
As long as they don't then hit you with a failed DD charge. No free lunch, and no free laptop

Yes, check on a comparison site and change suppliers or at least change tariffs. So just to clarify (I have only just caught up with this as the wife opened the bill and stashed it with junk mail) as they have forced people onto the Standard tariff from 1st Jan, I signed up to the SV7 back in 7-Jan 2011, I can now switch to another tariff without being penalised?0
