    I would say to

    (a) get rid of Sky and get a digibox - they are pretty cheap and more than enough programmes on
    (b) insist on him stopping smoking - at least try for 14th March on Stop Smoking Day. £100 is a lot of money a month and you and the kids are at risk from passive smoking. Shouldn't preach but I do get annoyed when people put their kids at risk.
    (c) try changing house insurance company - I am sure you will be able to get a combined policy for cheaper than that.
    (d) car insurance seems expensive. Direct Line do a discount if you insure both cars with them
    (e) when you change car, get a diesel - I have a medium size car and get almost 50 mpg out of it
    (f) dont know whether you Legal and General Insurance policy is a life policy but if it is, it is worth getting other quotes although L & G gave me best price. Many life policies have come down in price.
    (g) worth shopping at Aldi, at least for some of the stuff. Very good prices for quality products but you can't get everything there and just watch out as some products cost more than at other shops. Stores are pleasant to shop in but our two local ones are ALWAYS short staffed - sometimes there is nobody at the checkouts.
    (h) worth looking at re-mortgaging when any fixed periods come to an end as you have good equity in the house. If you save £50 a month it will help and you can extend your period a bit as hubby will probably have to work till he is 65 anyway.
    (i) your mobile phone bill sounds expensive - do you REALLY need to spend that amount. Remember texting costs 10p a time. Why not try changing to Orange as you get free broadband saving £17 a month.
    (j) Tesco have a budget broadband around £12.49 a month and it serves me ok and I consider I am a regular user.

Hope you manage to pull through ok. You have a reasonable amount of money coming in - its just getting those outgoings down.

Take care and remember the smoking!!!!

a)Going to phone sky about reducing the amount of channels but don't know whether to disconnect as we have our phone through them and I think this works out as a cheap option?
b)Hubby's smoking roll-ups so that's saving a bit, he gave up 18 months ago for about 3 months so I'm sure he can do it again!
c)I'm looking into house/contents insurance now and can definitely get a better deal just deciding which one's got the best deal!
d)Just re-newed car insurances and they were the cheapest we could get! We paid them in full so they might not work out as much as that a month.
    e)Already looking at diesel cars!
f)Haven't looked at policies yet. When we took them out they were the best deal but may not be now. Something on my 'to do' list!
g)Already do some shopping at Aldi but we get 10% off Tesco so try to shop there. We've got a big family and quite a few pets so know to get this bill down is going to be difficult!
h)Thinking about paying off six months mortgage in advance to see if they'll then let us borrow more. Don't know if this is the best option?
i)My two girls need their mobiles as they have rehearsals and after school clubs etc but they're on PAYG and hardly use them. I'm also PAYG and don't use it a great deal! Hubby's going to go over to PAYG! We're all with Orange but didn't know about that deal! Has anyone got any more info'?

Going to contact Tax Credits tomorrow:o and chase up the statements!

So much to do and so little spare hours in a day!

I could always sell my children for child slavery:D I think they'd be returned for a refund though!

    Hope you're all well,

Hi Dizzy, you seem to be storming ahead!
Re: the quotes: click on the 'quote' button in the bottom right of the post you are going to reply to. The reply box comes up with the other person's words in, then you highllight and delete any you don't want. Be sure to keep the bits in square brackets at the beginning and end, the ones that look like this:
QUOTE= person'sname (but with square brackets round)
/QUOTE (also with square brackets round)
I can't put the brackets on or it gives the effect of a quotation without the info you need!

Don't forget quidco when you change untilities, or insurances. https://www.quidco.com give you cashback for things you would buy anyway. Some insurers are giving £75 cashback on policies at the moment.
    hope this helps
