  • Hello Alice, have just started reading your diary - well done for all you've done so far! now subscribed :) x
  • Had to come and share on here as DH isn't in the least bit interested.....we've kept the heating off too :T I said to DH half jokingly that perhaps we could aim for Dec 1st :rotfl: his reply was "hmmm, shall we just see hey" whilst rolling his eyes at me! We've had the heated airer on as washing on line isn't doing so well although i'm still hanging out when it's dry! :) xx

  • Hi WhiteRose, thank you for your post. Welcome to my ramblings.

DFW, well done on leaving the heating off. Men eh! My OH went to bed last night in a sweatshirt. still managing without the heating on (just) and pegged out today.:)

Had to get some dishwasher powder tonight, not very MSE but certainly helps me keep on top of things.:o

  • The heating is still off but no sure for how much longer. Last night when OH had a shower he came down in a big sweatshirt/jumper thing and a pair of shorts:eek:....then moaned he was cold.:( He has taken to wearing thermal leggings in bed (a real passion killer) instead of a sweatshirt. What is he like!:o

Today the sun is out (although still fresh out there) so have pegged out.:)

Yesterday was NSD number 2 but we need some bits from the supermarket, mainly things for lunchboxes, will call into supermarket on way home.

This month we need to pay all childcare fees at the beginning of the month, so the first couple of weeks are going to be even tighter. But we've just paid the last of the water rates until next April, that will save £70 per month.

  • I'm wondering when our heating might go on - for the last couple of nights most of the family have been out of the house so not needed it but tonight we are all home.

Too be fair the house is quite warm still although now the temperature is dropping at night I don't expect this to continue.

My DS came downstairs the other day to tell me how cold he was - in his short pyjamas!!

I am hoping to peg out today - I didn't manage to get washing dry over the weekend so used the airer but it is only small and the washing has been hanging around so will need to wash again - the problem with being involved in loads of things is that I forget things like washing.

Great news about water - it's the same with council tax here. I know we pay the same amount every year but to pay it over 10months instead of 12 feels like free money - we are planning to buy our BT line rental outright which makes it much cheaper.

    Have a great day!!
  • We gave in! My heating has been on twice since I last posted. Only for 2 hours max but kids were freezing :o ! It's gone from mild and spring like to winter! Where did autumn go ! Xx

    Hi Alice,

How you doing with the heating? We've had ours on the odd evening but not mornings yet xx

  • It's happened - the heating went on last night.

DD gets in from school at 4.30pm, we get back from work about 6pm. When we got back she was wrapped in a giant scarf/cardi thing. if DD is cold we know it's cold - DD is the hottest girl on the planet and in winter she has to have a fan blowing on her all night.

It is our first time with the thermostat in the lounge rather than upstairs so need to work out how it works - I ended up so hot last night I was walking round in a vest top!!

Lets have a discussion about heating - what temp do you all set the thermostat to ?

EE, it would be interesting to hear what temperature others set the heating at.

This is our first winter in this house so we are going to have to play around with the temperature to get it right I think. It doesn't help that the thermostat is in the warmest bit of the house so when it reaches temperature, the rest of the house can still feel cold.

We are currently testing 17 degrees but only for half an hour in the morning and an hour or so in the evening but it hasn't been that cold here yet so we are really just taking the chill off.

I've recently had my house insulated (for free) and am noticing that I can have my heating much lower than I did last winter. I set it for 17 degrees, and both times I've had it on, I've switched it off once the thermostat has reached 14 degrees.

I live on my own at the moment, so I feel bad putting the heating on just for me, but there's been a couple of very cold nights this week, and the hat and dressing gown just hasn't been enough.

Mine never goes on in the morning - I always remember Mam telling me that there's no point in heating up a house that's soon going to be empty! I sleep with my dressing gown as an extra blanket, then it's nice and warm, and to hand when I wake up!
