  • Good morning Tilly

Fingers crossed that e-mail arrives soon :)

Well done on August 2015 :T We're sooooo jealous - by next summer our outstanding mortgage should equal the amount we borrowed on our first mortgage in 2002... how depressing!

    How's the garden?

    MWCx
Our garden is WET. It's so sad to see my veg looking like this. I am hoping it settles down and catches up once the rain stops.

I've out more chilli and tomato plants in, but they are under cloches - thankfully.

I know I felt excited when our mortgage got down to £175k, which was our previous maximum. Next will be when it gets to £125k which I think is what we borrowed to buy this house. I always used to be able to remember the figures but I think my head must be full of too much other carp these days :(

Admittedly having an endowment from a previous mortgage paying out next year will be a big help, as will my redundancy - which I am praying all slots into place and they accept my request.

You can come on holiday to Portugal and we can pick veg, gather eggs and get Mr MWC in the kitchen making glorious meals :):):)

I'd better crack on I have to cancel a few meetings and get some paperwork sorted.

    Best wishes, Tilly x x

We had a good weekend and plenty of time to chat about our futures. We won't be leaving the country any sooner because of DS but we will be changing our lives in terms of where we live etc - really looking forward to it. Thanks for your good wishes x x x

All going well this end. We will have cleared the mortgage by August next year and very likely to move house and downsize. That will release a large amount of cash to buy a house to live in but which we can let once we move abroad, plus buy a second property to let and depending on how things go, possibly a third or invest the money - who knows.

It's likely that Mr T will still want to work for the next few years as he's only mid ish 40s but we are choosing to get ourselves ready for the big move :T

We only ever bought our current house as an investment and it's served its purpose well. It's been a great place to bring the kids up though and we have done lots of entertaining and having plenty of room meant my parents could stay and have their own bathroom etc. We all think the house has basically served its purpose now - if that makes sense. Kids are mid and late teens now and are thinking of their futures as well.

With the income off B2L plus savings, we can move abroad, travel, volunteer, renovate the house over there and generally live a more relaxed life.

I am still struggling to get my head round where we are - I think it was November 2011 I started my diary and what a transformation during that time :)

It's been worth stopping the extravagant and frankly pointless way of life for this new frugal one. We still entertain and buy good food and wine etc but we are all interested in having less stuff and more time to experience life. When I say transformation I really do mean it - Mr T would buy new gadgets at the drop of a hat and Christmas would be a free for all.

I think I've said before on my diary, all of us prefer how we live these days - what an amazing lesson for the kids to learn now, rather than as we did in our 40s.

Apologies Lula, I didn't expect to waffle on so long but I think it comes from being so genuinely grateful for finding this site and the things we have learnt.

Hope all is going well with you all.

    Best wishes Tilly x

That's amazing Tilly.... to think that you could potentially living your dream life abroad is fantastic.

I think your journey has been the one that I've been most in awe of to be honest.

We're all well, but being honest, we still have much to learn and a long way to go on this financial journey of ours. We went through a phase of being much better but sadly it didn't last long.

We've a lot of soul searching to do here but I'm determined to get back on board with everything.

Hopefully being a regular poster and reader of some threads here will help me along the way.

  • Crikey Lula, don't be in awe of our journey, you cannot begin to imagine how stupid we were before
