I have been adulting for the last decade using the inspiration from this thread and at my grand age of 39, I finally bought my first home with my Husband. All I could think of is overpaying and setting up new sinking pots! We moved in just 3 weeks ago after 6 weeks of building work to build offices, so I feel your building site pain.
You've taught us all so much and aside from all the lessons, the image you created of a blissful family life have stayed with me and I got to live out one of my own a few afternoons ago: I needed to meal plan the week and I remembered a diary entry from Tilly. You sat at your table in the kitchen with a cup of tea and a notebook, and flicked through the pages of a recipe book. The comfort you expressed, the warm glow from your kitchen, the image you conjured as you jotted down ingredients, filled me with joy that I hoped to experience one day in my very own home...and that day came. I felt so proud and happy!
Now my focus has moved from TT to saving a deposit of 20% to overpaying the mortgage of £378k.
A shared spreadsheet with my Mr will be created tonight in the hopes to clear £500pm overpayment and track the interest saved. As much as being mortgage free sounds wonderful, it's economically not the best use of our money so only a quarter or our disposable income will be used to overpay monthly. If covid times taught us anything its that we need to spread our eggs around to diversify wealth. Any extra income I happen to make will go towards overpayment though, the TT need is too strong to only do it once per month!
Hope to see you post again soon, look forward to updates x2025 Mortgage start £378K 2025 Overpayment £103 Savings Challenge 2025 **MONEY MAKES ME HAPPY**7 -
Congratulations on your house purchase nat21luv. It is a very exciting time ( if a bit scary money wise) but you’re already reaping the benefits of your hard work by enjoying your new home and letting it bring you happy moments. Your OP plans sound like the perfect mix. I agree Tilly is so inspirational.Good luck with everything.SLMFIT -T5 #423
