Lawks Tilly - I am a plank! As you've doubtless discovered, the dish I was wittering about was Turlu Turlu - really, I'm not sure I am safe to be let out by myself at times :o

Mine you - at least the Clarke's recipe comes up first if you google the 'other' name - so slight redemption for me :o

Oh yes, I'm with you on the Harissa paste too - I'd never done it until I came across David Tanis' recipe and I made it in the mortar and pestle - so easy! and satisfying to boot. Yes to ras-el - hanout too, although I use that less, and as I now have sumac, I too could have a go at making zaatar.

  • Hi Greying, re the Zaatar, often the recipes call for whizzing or pounding the sesame seeds - however we definitely prefer it with the seeds whole - flavour seems better along with texture. All personal preference but thought I'd share:)

Tonight's dinner is chicken and date tagine with cous cous. I'll be outing a little chilli flake in along with diced and fried onion.

  • Hiya, £800 moved to offset, along with 23p Tilly Tidy :)

Funeral arrangements set but still another two weeks to go. So sad that the crem diary is full, when you know that means so many losses :( It makes it very difficult as there's no opportunity for mum to start recovering yet, as we're still waiting the funeral :(

Anyway, she seems more positive today and looking forward to coming back in February :):)

Mr T and I have been chatting about the things we have learnt over the last 5 months. We have a couple of hobbies to start once I'm more myself and looking forward to more time outdoors :)

My apologies that this has become more of a rambling diary of late. It is a journey and the road tends to weave around quite a lot, thus highs and lows are inevitable. I'm pretty certain my drive will return once Mr T is gainfully employed. That doesn't mean I'm feeling low, on the contrary I'm feeling particularly chipper, just frustrated.

I'm off to sort the cous cous now - have a good evening

So long as you are going in the right direction, is it really bad to slow down from time to time?

You have had some big life events lately, perhaps you need some time to assimilate them?

Sadly this time of year often means crem diaries are full - when I was 19 I worked in the securities department of a high street bank, and one of my duties was the 'deceased desk' - ie: dealing with bereaved people and the accounts and banking of the deceased person. I started that desk in the December and did other work with it - come January we had several new cases each day. It seemed to be a combination of people 'making it' to Christmas (I mean that in the nicest way - people being determined to see Christmas and the New Year through) and then a sharp cold snap usually in early January :(

I agree that a funeral helps people to move on - it's an important part of the grieving process for those left. My dad died in late March the other year - due to identification problems his body wasn't released for weeks and we finally had his funeral on May 4th. That was a long wait!!

You're not coming across as low in your writing, Tilly, far from it. You sound thoughtful at times, as though this part of the journey is making you think about things

    Hope you're recovering well xx

Ay up Tills - think we may of been drinking from the same inspiration fountain! Morrocan 'style' stew for us tonight - with a 'version' of zaatar sprinkled on top :D Ta for the inspiration :D

  • your not rambling Tilly, you paid 23p this week (which is 23p more than me...) I am sure when mr T gets a new job you will both look back on this time and be proud of how you supported each other through redundancy and other stress while still managing to speak to one another.

Thanks Kirsty. I'm quite surprised we are managing to move anything to offset savings with only one of us working but shows we are adapting :).

Morning Greent, it must have been pretty hard on that desk in January.

Changing to a more cheerful subject, the sun has just come out and the fog has cleared :):)

I'm doing the ironing today then more resting. Driving me nuts :o

To all those looking for jobs or permanent contracts - positive vibes being sent :T:T

Dinner this evening is corned beef and potato pie with glazed carrots and savoy cabbage with smoked bacon.

    Best wishes Tilly x
