Hi Katsu, yes, it does sound as though the world economy is teetering - I worry about my mortgage but I have no clue how the politicians sleep at night knowing how much the country is in debt.
Back to the drawing board on the FT front then, but it does sound like a phrase I could use with DH when we need some quiet time - sounds quiet sweet, when it's not a worky word.

I never thought that I would find anybody who used as many or, dare I say it, more, spreadsheets than me!!1

Morning LB, I have no idea how people cope without spreadsheets -I am not sure I could function without them

Anyone need the Tilly household to complain about a problem for them? BT here nice and early, whole morning of toing and froing by the two engineers complete, and broadband issue now fixed. I cannot believe the speed of resolution after about 7 weeks of problems.
Let's hope it remains fixed, but excellent news and a happy DH, and Tilly.
Shall I try fixing the UK economy this afternoon :rotfl:

Thats amazing, well done Tilly.....
Yes, first stop BT, next stop World Economy, there will be no stopping you. It will need a super sized spreadsheet for the economy fixing project!!1 -

Hi PWD, as I have written 3 updates and each of them has disappeared, I feel quite frustrated. Anyway, I can't handle that many 0s - how do those guys sleep at night?
On a practical front, broadband has stayed up - thank goodness. DH is now negotiating cash back from BT.
Looks like we have managed to reduce our expenditure by about £150 a month, which is, in my mind, a considerable amount of money, so I'm delighted. DH and I had a chat this morning about our progress since November 2011 and we are both satisfied with where we are. It's certainly a journey, and the biggest aspect, as I have said before so apologies for repeating, is learn to use your disposable income more effectively, and to increase your disposable income by cutting costs/buying more smartly and upping the income some how.
My salary increase is effective from February, so that's another chunk to the OP each month - I think chunk makes it sound too big, but you know what I mean.
All in all it's been a good journey so far although I can't see that our costs can be cut elsewhere now. I think all of that housekeeping stuff is done and now it's business as usual.
We did cheer this morning though, so close to seeing the back of the Spanish bank - both of us can't wait:j

So excited for you that you are ditching the Spanish bank!!:j
It makes me quite ready to get our of our mortgage but we have until 2014 to go. That said, I think that if we can pay the max we can, after we start in earnest next year, then we will be in a good position to agree to a more variable mortgage as more risk will be fine by then. At the rate things are going in the world economy at the moment I think interest rates won't be rising until then anyway! Have assumed that you are at Davos sorting them all out Tilly since you are, unusually for you at this time, offline! Give em hell!
Agree with you on the cutting costs where possible. I have been quite surprised how little we have spent in the last few weeks since beginning this in earnest. I am not sure how assisted we are because we are both trying to lose weight so eating less...:rotfl:
It has been odd though, just not thinking about spending money. Trying to decided whether to pay for our holiday (which we have to pay for in euros) in full now. We have to pay Bxxxx, (that could stand for a few things couldn't it), £25 to do a money transfer just to pay someone in euros and no doubt their exchange rate will be shocking as the rate in general isn't too bad at the moment. I know that you do transfers, do you mind letting me know how you do it and whether there is a better way? We owe 1/4 of the holiday which is only slightly £200 but not sure whether to just take the hit and pay the whole thing now rather than incur that £25 twice.... any advice?

Hi SJ, I will PM you with the details of the company we use. Their rates work out very competitive but they do have a minimum of £500 so perhaps that answers the question of when/how to do it, if you choose to go with them.
Good luck on the weight loss - win win on the lower food budget, and the loss of lbs.
Hope you have had a good week and I can't believe it's Friday tomorrow. I have 1 piece of ironing so something must be going wrong with the world........but the doesn't mean I am taking ironing in, before anyone asks xxxxxxxx

Thanks Tilly, was sure that there must be a cheaper way of doing this somehow!
