How can we alert anyone who may be housebound and possibly taken Ruaridh in? Do you have a local "Meals on Wheels" type of service where volunteers go out to housebound/elderly people?

Or a Home Help service? Usually Social Services run this. Could you speak to someone at Social Services? I've just heard from a friend who's a Home Help and an elderly lady had taken in an old female dog she found in her front garden. Whenever the Home Help visited the dog would be put in the shed as the old lady didn't want anyone to know she had the dog.

It was only when the home help mentioned the dog hair that the old lady came clean, and she'd had the dog three weeks by then. She hadn't told anyone as she wanted to keep the dog.

Needless to say there was a frantic owner scouring the area looking for the dog...she was ecstatic to have her returned. And the old lady is refusing to speak to the Home Help...!

So you never know. I'm optimistic this may be the case with Ruaridh.

I reckon that is exactly what's happened, someone wanted Ruaridh and that is why they haven't said anything. Really good idea about Social Services and Meals on Wheels, perhaps drop some leaflets to both of them as the volunteers/home helps must know their clients really well and should pick up if they have suddenly acquired a dog.

I just wanted to say never give up hope of finding your boy or think that people have forgotten about him being missing.

As mentioned in previous posts we lost Spot one saturday afternoon and whilst searching for him we stopped every dog walker that passed us.

Anyway that was about 8 weeks ago and whilst out walking this morning, I was stopped by someone walking their dog who asked me if I'd heard about a pup of the same breed going missing a few weeks ago....of course he was pleased when I told him that the missing pup and the one I was walking was the one and the same.

What I'm saying is that even if you think people have forgotten about your old boy they haven't and will still be looking out for you.

Do you have an Age Concern (or Age UK or whatever it's called now) in your area? They might run a volunteer visitor scheme. It might be worth talking to their volunteer coordinator to see if any of the volunteers have mentioned that the elderly person they visit has got a dog.

    Thanks again everyone.

Had a bit of a meltdown last night I'm afraid. I think it was because I was out with Bruce and the snow was hammering down. I was just standing in the middle of a field shouting on Ruars, and for some reason expected to see the big black shape trotting along the path, and when he didn't I just lost it.

I'm not going into work today, just don't feel able to. I'll gather myself today and go back tomorrow. I'll go round the 'old peoples' places this morning.

I don't want to appear negative in the slightest, but I've got this feeling in my gut and heart that I'm not going to see him again. I know everyone has been smashing at supporting us..but the thought must be in everyone's heads by now. If he's passed away- I still want to know..the not knowing is the killer. Poor Ross had a 'moment' on the phone last night as well which was difficult.

And there I go, rambling again..I feel so selfish as I know there's so many people with so much worse problems than this at this time of year.:(
Ruaridh Armstrong-missing since 05/11/11. Come home old boy-we miss you x

How on earth are you selfish? And if you are,so what? You are entitled to know what has happened to your beloved dog.Yoy are MORE than entitled to care. That should be the same for all animals and sadly ,many are not cared about.So.You have melt down if you want,no one would blame you.You are wonderful for all you have done trying to find him and it is so cruel that you can't.

However you must also look after yourself and let others do so.Otherwise you will fall apart.

    Love and hugs xx

Don't do that. :) A problem is a problem, it's no less of a problem even if someone else has a different problem which may be more serious in the whole scheme of things.

If you feel like rambling, you go right ahead. Told you before that's what this place (and us) are here for.

Most of us feel pretty impotant and aware that the only thing we can really do to help is to be here as support. It's a choice thing. So shut your face and ramble on. ;):D Iyswim. :D

  • I really, really feel for you and your family, it's got to be the not knowing that would kill me. I haven't read all the pages, so apologies if it's been mentioned before, but have announcements on local radio stations been mentioned?
