Just had a look at a website called Oldies Club (don't know how to do a link) and they have an 11 year old black labrador cross called Harry, with a picture of him. He does look a lot like Ruaridh, but probably a lot fatter...but what a lovely old darling he is!! I feel like I want to adopt him right now!
Sazzy, did you manage to knock on any of the doors in Pig Street?
He looks like he's worrying for the whole world. I think he has sad eyes.

Hi Zaksmum ... I saw that too, and yes, for a moment my heart pounded. I rang the rescue centre, but he had been handed in by a family who had had him since he was a pup, plus he was a full labrador and not a cross.
Just goes to show we are all on the serious look-out for Ruars!!!Some days I wake up Grumpy ... Other days I let him lie in.0 -
OMG will have to stop looking on the oldies site, I want Teddy the staffy:D:D"You can't stop the waves, but you can learn to surf"

I was first up there at 8am, but managed to accost a few dog walkers there, and hand them flyers- they ALL said 'oh yes, I've read about him, we're looking out for him, don't worry' which was nice.
I went up again at lunchtime and got a few doors, but no one knew anything. There was a couple of labs, but not Ruars.
I've just looked at that Oldies site and my heart bleeds for them all. Maybe it's just the way I'm feeling, but I want to give them ALL a home! They're so lovely.Ruaridh Armstrong-missing since 05/11/11. Come home old boy-we miss you x

The only time one of my dogs went missing, it was for just two hours, and I became a wailing wreck wandering the neighbourhood looking for her. We'd only had her 2 weeks, and she was still nervous in her new home. We had a friend staying, and he agreed to keep an eye on them while I went to the bank (20 minute trip on foot max). The back screen door (in Canada - to keep out bugs, but let in air) latch popped open and both dogs trotted outside. Our friend panicked and yelled, and our new dog got scared and ran. He yelled because he cared about the dog, but it was a mistake. Anyone that cares about their pets will make a mistake or two along the way, because always getting it right is only possible in hindsight. So, to the troll attacking the OP, give it up. The best laid plans can still go wrong; accidents happen.
We got lucky that our dog came home after I'd decided to stop wandering the neighbourhood and instead to sit on the back steps and plan my next move. Given that my ordeal was only a couple of hours long, I can't imagine living with it for 3 weeks. I don't know if I could be as brave as the OP has been. If sheer tenacity could bring him home, Ruaridh would be home already. And for that, the OP deserves praise and support, not snide criticism.0 -
I wish you hadn't posted that link to the oldies
So sad.
Sazzy, still hoping and praying that Ruaridh will return. If he has found shelter in a barn or something, perhaps the turn in the weather will send him nearer to 'civilisation' and houses?

I'm the same Aileen, I've always had a soft spot for oldies and even more since I had Ben - he was goodness knows what age when I got him (was told coming up 5 but, having had labs all my life, we knew he was at least a couple of years older).
When I sponsored a dog with Dogs Trust, I was having real difficulty trying to choose a dog - until I came across the "golden oldies" and there was no contest!:D
I was very heartened when I was looking at a local rescue's site the other day (I know, I know - no intention of another yet but ......) to see a gorgeous 8 year old lab with a "reserved" marker on her.:D
There are 2 in another local rescue but they need to go together and couldn't manage both ....... I also don't know if I could have another oldie straight away, there's so much more chance of losing them quicker ..... but, then again, DMs last lab was unfortunately only 5 when she was called to Rainbow Bridge.
Aileen, just want to say what a wonderful job you've done trying to find your boy - the amount of people you've managed to reach is truely inspirational and outstanding. I have never known a campaign like this to find a lost wee one. (((hugs))) as I really don't know how you're managing to hold it together and I'm just so glad Sean is home with you now.Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

Thank you once again, I say those words so often, that I hope they still mean as much to all.
Please, don't give me credit for being brave-but I do thank you from the bottom of my heart. I have been so near to collapse so many times. The only thing that's kept me going is Bruce- he still needs me to be his mummy. The cats still need fed and cuddled-so I have to hold it all together.
When Sean got back from Australia, I honestly did think I would totally lose it- but he was so upset at coming home to no Ruars, that I felt he needed me, so I had to keep going. I do want to curl up in a corner and shut the world out- but that won't find my old boy. Once he's home-or I know what's happened to him...THAT will be when I breakdown. Until then, I can't stop.
I know I'm rambling, and I just hope it makes sense.Ruaridh Armstrong-missing since 05/11/11. Come home old boy-we miss you x
