    Thanks everyone.

Zaksmum- they didn't say what house it was- but it's a very very small road with about 10 houses on it, so I'll put flyers in those doors and knock on every one.

Bruce is insured with PetPlan, but Ruars wasn't due to his age.

Snuggy- Ruars was featkured on Beverly Cuddys blog for Gog Today magazine.

All- thank you for answering reweird for me- didn't trust myself to answer rationally last night.

Reweird-If you could POSSIBLY tell me what 'angle' I have, or what more there is to know, that you supposedly know- I'd love to know. What else is there to tell? My puppy wanted a wee, Ruars was climbing the walls with the fireworks and I didn't want to leave him alone in the house. I put his collar and lead on-to take them both into the front garden. A volley of fireworks went off in the garden of the house opposite, he was so freaking, he slipped his collar- and bolted. If you've ever tried to chase a frightened dog down a street, especially with a 4 month old puppy at your side- you'll realise it's as easy as catching wind.

In hindsight-yes I SHOULD have left him in the house to be frightened out of his wits for 2 minutes instead of the nightmare of the last 3 weeks-unfortunately foresight is a gift I don't have. And if you think I haven't hated myself for it every single day since- then you're wrong!

  • Sazzy, still keeping everything crossed and praying .....

Please, please don't blame yourself - it was a freak thing that could've happened to any of us. Ben managed to slip his collar a few times (labs can be a nightmare for it due to the size ratio of their head/necks) - but luckily it always happened somewhere where I was able to catch him easily - ie there weren't a load of fireworks going off (I'd have had no chance either).

I think at that time of night, especially on a Friday, the weird one must have had a few jars and we should all ignore his/her drunken ramblings.

Sazzy - I haven't posted much on here, but think of you every day and still keeping all fingers and paws crossed here xxxx

Another lurker here wishing you all the best. My cat went missing on the 8th so while I have been reading here I have really felt for you. Luckily my lad was found after 14 days stuck in a garage 5 doors away. We used Animal Search UK and got their bronze package, 20 waterproof posters and 200 leafelts for £220 paid for via insurance. I know yours in not insured but I was really impressed with their service and I think the freephone number 24 hours aday is a great incentive for people to call. Even if its bad news they may feel more inclined to call rather than phone the owner. So happy to have my lad home wishing you all the best and hope for a happy ending. Please don't give up hope as someone said to me someone out there will know something a large animal don't just vanish.

Thanks again for all the support.

I went up and down Pig St today, putting flyers on cars and through doors. Even the supermarkets cars got a few.

Walked round the river again and the river is in full flood due to the rain, wind and snow yesterday and this morning. This sounds awful I know- but whilst Sean looked in the bushes etc, I couldn't keep my eyes off the river in case Ruars went past. I know how morbid that sounds.

It's been 3 weeks tonight since this nightmare began, and again- I just want to thank every single one of you for your time, your good wishes, your support and your continuing efforts and ideas. I wish I could thank you all in person.

Just had a look at a website called Oldies Club (don't know how to do a link) and they have an 11 year old black labrador cross called Harry, with a picture of him. He does look a lot like Ruaridh, but probably a lot fatter...but what a lovely old darling he is!! I feel like I want to adopt him right now!

Sazzy, did you manage to knock on any of the doors in Pig Street?
