To those people asking why this wasn't done on a Sunday, it's precisely so that if the change on Saturday doesn't work as expected it gives the recovery team the whole of Sunday to get everything back up before the start of business on Monday - it's inconvenient, or worse, for customers, but there is no better time to do major changes than at a weekend because it's the only time when you have a lengthy period between balance updates. You can be sure that there will be a lot of people in work tonight trying to get things sorted out as soon as possible.
Oh, and for the conspiracy theorists, this is nothing to do with whatever problem HSBC had, this is a planned change that hasn't worked as expected, HSBC appear to have had an unexpected problem, which fortunately they were able to fix relatively quickly.0 -
