It makes me mad too. There are some amzing teachers out there, but the Maths and Science teachers particularly at the girls school seem to be lacking. I have heard of alot of parents withdrawing their children from the school because of poor teaching in those two subjects. Its a shame, the school has a great reputation, comes immediately behind the grammar schools in the league tables and produces good results bt I have heard that all children with good GCSE results last year were being tutored outside of school to get them through. How true that is I am unsure. . I am hoping things improve dramatically with the new head.

What subject do you teach Shelski ?

It's shocking that the only way to get any results is to remove your child from school or pay for the extra tuition.

As long as you don't mean all teachers, Granny.

I'm a primary school teacher and have taught everything from reception up to Y6. It's important to keep fresh.

    Hope everyone's having a good day x

I agree. I have considered taking her out of school on the days / times she has Maths lessons and teaching her myself. Mr PG and I have spent the majority of the afternoon going over what I consider are the basics and then looking at the test sheet she had brought home from school. It was hard going !!!

Dinner eaten and cleared up,off to play some board games together now xx

No , I think Granny means the teachers I have been complaining about today.

I do think the teachers have alot to deal with now though in fairness , as some of the children appear so disruptive, I think half the lessons are spent trying to gain control and I certainly dont envy any teacher that job. In one of DD1's classes a child put nails in the teachers coffee mug when he was looking the other way. Apparently she had decided she didnt like him and would teach him a lesson . I was horrified

The girls, Mr PG and the rest of my family have always said I should have trained as a teacher, but I must admit I am put off by some of the stories DD1 has told me !

  • PG I don't know if it helps but DS1's school use the Mathletics online computer programme which the kids can also access at home. The kids all go mad for it. I thought it might be too young for your DD (DS1 is 8) but a quick google tells me its for ages 5-18. I'm not sure if there is a charge for it or not if you don't access it through a school login though Xx

I use a maths tutor for 2 of mine. DD1 would give him up like a shot but DS2 gets on well with him. Once DD1 goes on study leave I'll probably start DD2. They go alternate weeks so it helps to ease the expense.

  • Mr PG made me a picture for my birthday last April and he made another for my Niece as part of her wedding present.

We finally got around to popping one up for sale in December as with work quiet we thought it was worth a shot and if sold Mr PG may have time to finish making it. It was a shot in the dark, the plan being it would go up for sale on Folksy maybe . In the rush though we popped it up on eBay at a Buy It Now Price.

We have literally just sold one for £150 ! :T:T:T

Mr PG now must add this to the Good Things Jar for 2013 !

Off to celebrate with leftover Melt in the Middle Choccy Pud and Vanilla Custard ! :D

  • Wow, that's absolutely fantastic!!!!! How proud must you be of him??? How proud he must be of himself?? And quite rightly so!

    Well done.

Now, I have to tell you...... I'm pea green with envy! You have tickets to go and see Les Mis! I so, so desperately want to see this when it comes out..... But, I can't imagine this happening as we don't have a babysitter for awhile. I don't know whether to bite the bullet and go one Wednesday afternoon, by myself, when I have the day off work??

Did I mention..... I really want to watch it? Pea green *sigh*. Lol xx
