  • I am caught up :-) But what happened when you tackled the dance teacher face to face???

She denied everything, apparently was jsut having a little fun which DD! Couldnt see the funny side of it . DD1 has a fab sense of humour and certainly knows humour from nastiness. Dance Teacher told to back off........watch this space !

Never mind the dance teacher, what happened to the maths teacher???

:rotfl:I cant remember where I got to with that one, but we are planning a meeting with the new head master who starts next week .
Head of Maths couldnt care less, seems to find it funny that we are spending our time teaching her, Maths teacher still using videos but has roped in a 6th former who wants to be a primary teacher to help in class. DD1 says 6th former is actually pretty good and is helping.....but !

Recent school report says DD1 in line for a GCSE Grade E  This is the child who was top of the class in every subject . Recent test before Christmas, some students got up and walked out of class saying there was no point them being there as they hadnt learnt anything on the test paper. DD1 tried her best and answered a few questions. Head of MAths say he has never ever had complaints about that teacher yet varying children in other year groups have told me their parents complained. Sadly I dont think any parents in DD1s class other than me have complained so I am fighting a lone battle !

Teacher response to students complaints about test paper - take home the test paper, teach yourself how to find the answers in the Christmas Holidays then you can re sit the paper in January. Guess who then gets the credit for the better results ?

On anoher DD2 wrote a polite note to her Science Teacher advising him that she was sadly learning nothing in his classes ! He failed to respond ! :rotfl: Head of Science response to the matter was to move the class to a smaller classroom so that they could hear the teacher better ! A callback was promised a week later but never came !

New Headmaster apparently very very strict, I am hoping he will kick the teachers into touch, I think they need it more than the pupils, they appear to have become very complacent.

Need I say more ?!!!!

  • I can't just read and run, those teachers are disgraceful. I wish I still had my old notes or I'd send them down for you.

Do the girls use BBC Bitesize? I used it a lot during SATs and GCSEs and it's very good for basic maths. it's more interactive than just watching a video and I think that really helps.

I'm from the tail end of the Tory teaching where it was all repetition and I do find having a paper and doing it over and over helps but you need about three papers for that to work and do them in rotation. I remember getting so stressed out during SATs revision as there was only me and my best friend at the time put in for the higher maths paper, that I told my teachers I was giving up and doing no more.

I wish I was closer I'd offer to do science and maths mentoring for you x

Don't let it drop. Education is the key to so many opportunities. Makes me so angry when teachers like that then give teaching a bad reputation. I work really hard with my class but teachers aren't valued because of a bad few

Thanks Fallen, the thought has crossed my mind more than once. Maybe I will pop them in the Helicopter and fly them up to you !! :rotfl:

They do use Bitesize and it is helpful they also have a school website called My Maths which I think is pretty good.

They are both bright girls and I would hate to see them let down. I am going to re look at the finances again once works picks up and look at some tutoring. It was factored into the budget initially as DD2 was sitting her 11 plus and being tutored but that money got swallowed up when our mortgage increased.

Hope you are having a lovely weekend x

It makes me mad too. There are some amzing teachers out there, but the Maths and Science teachers particularly at the girls school seem to be lacking. I have heard of alot of parents withdrawing their children from the school because of poor teaching in those two subjects. Its a shame, the school has a great reputation, comes immediately behind the grammar schools in the league tables and produces good results bt I have heard that all children with good GCSE results last year were being tutored outside of school to get them through. How true that is I am unsure. . I am hoping things improve dramatically with the new head.

What subject do you teach Shelski ?

  • Thanks Mrs PG, we're having a good weekend. Lots of tidying done and it feels great.

Definitely write to the chair, my Dad was one at my old primary and he would take holiday from work just to go in and watch the teachers sometimes because how could he comment on them if he didn't know them. I really hope you get somewhere. I do think sometimes I should become a teacher but I saw all the problems my Mam went through with paperwork and management.
