Granny said most of what I was going to write, but I'd add a suggestion about night-worrying that could work.

I find that keeping a pad an pencil on the bedside table, and if the worry list starts overwhelming me, write them down. Don't bother putting the light on, it doesn't matter if you can't read the list in the morning. How does that help, you ask? It allows your brain to relax, because you can say "it's on the list for me to tackle in the morning", and your brain doesn't have to keep reminding you not to forget about this and that and every last damn thing.

The car may be a priority, as it sounds unsafe. Clubs, whilst lovely, can be cancelled and rejoined.

I heard a radio piece about the number of self-employed builders who have taken to sleeping in their vans rather than spend on fuel - fitting out their vans with a kind of platform bed. That may not be practical for DH, but I hope you use a cashback site for booking hotels? I use Topcashback for personal bookings, and got a great deal at Christmas of £49 per room (2 adults) per night at Jury's Inn with full breakfast (which could keep me going all day) and £12 cashback for me.

Hope some of that helps. Hugs x
What would you get if all you got was what you were thankful for?

Good advice there from granny and satchmo.

I have a pad and pen beside the bed and write stuff down as I think of it in the night. Sometimes though I am obviously asleep even though I think I'm awake as when I look at the notes they make no sense whatsoever! I'm still wondering about the 'don't forget about the other stuff' note. And the two lines I had written on top of over and over again until it was indecipherable as it was words on top of words :o

2 - My Car - It really is on its last legs. We need a 4x4 for work and I have no idea how on earth we will pay for another. It has now done over 190K miles, the windscreen has a huge crack in it, it needs three new tyres and rear brake pads. The exhaust appears to have a hole in it, therefore if I dont have the air bloweres on in the car, the car fills with fumes. Obviously not that healthy really, so to combat this we have the air circulators on permanently, but when the weather is cold or wet the windows dont clear properly and I have trouble seeing !! This is also not ideal ! There is a leak so it is also smelly and damp ! We are trying to keep it going but I am unsure how much longer we can do this for.:(

Sorry to make a light hearted comment to a serious post but that just has to be a description of a Land Rover...

Grany, Satcho, Piq - Thankyou !

I do keep a pad and pen by the bed but do you know what, as scatty as I am it ,has never ever crossed my mind to write on it unless I switch the light on first ! I didnt do that the other night as I didnt want to disturb Mr Pinot, but then again maybe I should have and he might have stopped snoring !!

Satchmo, I know a few people who have done similar to the builders you mentioned, a couple of people we know have bought cheap caravans ( these arent in the building trade ) and live in them during the week right outside their place of work rather than spending on the fuel. Sadly with our industry it isnt an option, we need to stay in the hotels we are told to regardless of the cost and they are booked by our clients who want to keep all people working on the job together. Therefore it can cost alot of money which although re - imbursed at some point there is usually a long wait and it can mess up finances totally. It sounds a good idea to me though if you can do it. Mr Pinot did sleep in a tent a few times in the summer though when he was able to save on fuel and hotel bills that we needed to pay for ourselves. I think he quite enjoyed it ! We do use cashback sites on the rare occasion we book our own hotels though. Thankyou for your advice, its always welcome !

Today has been a weird day, the work phone is ringing. Thats good ! Unfortunately its for more work on the days we are already booked, not the days we need work ! Typical !! We could have worked for four different people tomorrow but cant split ourselves in enough ways!! We also had a a call re a potential contract that someone wants to put us forward for starting asap for 6 months. If it comes off it should leave us free to still accept work on other days from regular clients without upsetting anyone by putting all of our eggs in one basket which is always a bad move. Been there, done that and suffered the consequences . We are keeping our fingers and toes crossed although we will have to negotiate with them rate wise as they arent paying quite enough , but we will cross that bridge if and when it comes to it. If it comes to fruition then it should work nicely as it will come to an end just as another potential one month job that we should have in June begins.

Oops thats it for now, rambles will stop, I have a houseful of teenage girls who have just appeared and are wondering where their dinner is !!! I only got home half an hour ago.........give me a chance ! Best I go !! xx

The fact that the phone has started ringing with potential work, whether convenient or not, is good. It means that there is still work out there and it will be heading your way.

That's great news about the 6 months of work, PG. DH had an email today, so that's 5 weeks of solid work for us :) Hopefully we can start to get more work for after that.

Can I ask - how easy was it to get the HMRC to let you pay the corp tax in instalments. Really hoping it doesn't come to that but relying on one big invoice getting paid and you know how that can go.

I'm DD free tonight. She's at a sleepover so it's just the 3 of us.
    Enjoy your houseful
