First real but rushed post of the New Year !
Christmas was great but exhausting.
New Year was fun and I woke with a clear head, just very tired due to the 6am bedtime ! I'm too old for this lark !
Today we are starting the new year with lots of plans, resolutions, not unlike last year really.
I am still on a mission to clear this debt as quickly as possible, sadly as with last year we are starting the year with little work. Today has been spent, chasing up work, invoicing etc. There appears to be some work on the horizon but nothing much confirmed as yet. We have just enough to get by in January if we are even more careful than usual. I need to get back into the budgeting side of things and have dusted down the expenses app which had been sadly neglected and have started today logging purchases etc. We need a little food , mainly basics, bread ,milk etc but arent doing too badly as we havent shopped since before christmas and have been living on leftovers. Pies, Curries and the like !
Christmas tree has been taken down, I know I sound like a humbug, but once its all over with I get fed up and want to give the house a good clean. Everything needs go in the loft now though !
Settled down this evening and watched Gargrave on the TV ! What a lovely family ! Certainly made me think about joining them in Oz thats for sure !! :rotfl:
New things for the New Year that we are doing as a family , inspired by something I read just before Christmas is that we now have a Good Things Jar. Actually it isnt a jar as I havent been out to buy one yet, but a big candle holder that I bought for the Christmas table. Everytime something good happens to one of us or as a family, or even something funny that made us laugh, we will write it on a piece of paper, fold into tiny pieces and pop inside the jar. On New Year Eve 2013 we will empty the jar and read all the Good Things that happened to us in 2013 ! There are bound to be some surely ??!!LBM July 2011 - Finally took control Nov 2011 DFD Sometime in the distant future !

What a lovely idea, I'd say with your lovely family you'd better order something the size of a skip not a jar xTargets

:rotfl:Thanks Granny !!
I was looking at Apothecary Jars and Mason Jars on ebay, but some of them reminded me of Urns which was a bit depressing. They were also more than I am prepared to pay, so the big candle holders which take Pillar Candles will do for now I think !
We have three Good Things notes popped in there to date, I'm not convinced that we will.............
a - Keep this up for a whole year !
b - Not Peek until New Years Eve !!

Oh wow, I love 'the Good Thing jar' idea and I have immediately nicked it for use in the Happy House. Except ours will be called 'the Good Thing goldfish bowl' because that's the only suitable container I can think of. (It is empty by the way. It's a fancy decorative one, not a fish-holding one, so the bits of paper will stay drier than you'd first think).LBM Dec 2011. Aimed, but failed, to clear all unsecured debt by Feb 2019. I think it could be just what the doctor ordered in times of feeling glum to have a peek now and again, you will still be able to review them all again on NYE. If it works and you do it again next year, it may also be good to then put the best ones in a scrap book that you keep longer term over the years.Oh wow, I love 'the Good Thing jar' idea and I have immediately nicked it for use in the Happy House. I love your 'good things jar' ideas. It will be great to read back over all the amazing things that have made you happy over the year.
Sadly when I suggested it to my brood they looked at me as though I have two heads. Maybe it is because it is a house of men
We are all currently sitting with our lightbox shining at us (for SAD), maybe I will suggest it again in a few days....business mortgage £0))''(+ Barclay's business kitchen loan £0=Total paid off was £96105 PPI claimed and received £13527

I agree with everyone what a lovely idea. I will suggest it tonight, if I get the same response as poohbear I might just do it myself.:D
Not the same but something we do when we are sitting down in the evening for tea is I ask everybody what the best and worst things of their day have been. Normally the worst is school...of course but it did encourage my friends son when they started it to talk about problems he was having at school too. I pinched this idea from supananny. Some of the best things are quite funny, one of the best things that happened to DS3 one day was he had had a new pencil at school that hadn't even been sharpened.....how innocent eh. xxDMP with CCCS started Jan12 £34,906 Jan13 £31,893 Jan14 £26,836 Jan15 £21,894 Jan16 £16,839 Jan17 £14,415 Jan19 £12,938ish Jan19 £9,649 Jan20 £6612 Feb 21 0 Self managed from Jan'17

Happy - I think the Goldfish bowl will work just as well as our candle holder. I just need to remember not to light any candles in it though or our Good Things will go up in a puff of smoke !
Granny - The Scrap Book is a lovely idea, I have a few on the go already for various things that I cant bear to part with . Im not sure I would be able to part with any Good Things though and would keep them all !
Pooh - Men are rubbish !! Mr PG says that he will participate but I think he may be humouring us. I can see it be the the girls or I who will be writing his Good Things for him !
Alice - Go for it Alice, do it on your own if noone will join you ! We do the same with the Best and Worst things about your day. It a great idea and really encourages the children to speak. We also done something similar on holiday in Florida a few years ago, we had a book and everyone had to write down their best and worst rides at the theme parks. The girls wrote some hilarious things, DD2 was only 5 at the time . Its lovely to read back on.
On the Good Things subject for anyone thinking of doing it, remember to write the date on your note !LBM July 2011 - Finally took control Nov 2011 DFD Sometime in the distant future !
