  • Thanks Granny for your post above , DD2 had a great first day at school thankyou.......but she did manage to drop her brand new school diary in a puddle of sick ( some poor child had got herself in a real tizzy and thrown up !) My DD was wandering along chatting ten to the dozen as she does, when her friends spotted the sick, shouted at her to mind where she was going, she jumped then dropped everything she was carrying :rotfl: She managed to salvage the pencil case but the new school diary and her map to help her find her way around the school were dropped right in it. At that moment the afternoon bell went and her friends ,worried about being late back to tutor base on their first day , wished her luck with sorting it out and went on their merry way. As they left a nasty toerag ran past her, knocked her flying, picked up her Diary and ran off with it ( I am hoping he got a nasty shock when he realised what it was covered in !) She didnt know what to do , left in the corridor all on her own , so she phoned her big Sis in a panic, who came to her rescue and took her very upset Baby Sis to the Head of Year to explain and she now has another shiny new diary and new map ! :DShe was upset though as she had spent all morning beautfully filling out her diary with her timetabble and all the information she needed. DD1 was a real sweety though and Tuesday night when DD2 wasnt looking, she took her diary out of her bag and filled everything in for her so that she didnt have to do it again ! :love:

    DD1 has had a lovely few days and is so far enjoying her GCSE subjects( long may it continue ) , it looks as though she has a good mix of teachers this year ( she has been pretty unlucky the past few years !) We also discovered she has been put in top set English, this is a huge achievement for her as although very very capable we have had to really push her with English. The school dont set for English until Year 10 which has been a bone of contention with me. She is very articulate, well spoken, despite the comments of her friends that she is posh ( she isnt she just speaks nicely !) and can chat to everyone about anything and is very funny . This is why I have always struggled to understand why she can tell stories beautifully but when it comes to translating those same things to paper she has a block. At the end of last school year when they sat exams her English teacher told her he wanted her to sit the Higher Level, it became a battle as the rest of the English Department didnt feel that she was able. Thankfully her teacher stood his ground and DD1 also told the department that she wanted to sit the paper. Thankfully the topic she had to write about was Festivals ! For her it was the perfect exam paper, she loves Music, loves concerts, loves fashion and people watching and as you probably know photography and also camping, so with all those things rolled into one she apparently wrote a lovely long descriptive piece and lo and behold we find out this week she has made it into top set. Only about 40 children out of about 350 apparently made it into this particular set so I am thrilled for her !! I have drummed it into her that she needs to prove herself now and stay there ! :D

    So I have lods more ramblings I think to write, mostly money orientated and probably moaning as I am spending for England. Everything is needed but I dont think there will be much money left for food this month so I may have to get creative !1

    I will be back later with my moans and additional expenditure, but off to work now ! xx

    Your daughters sound lovely, how proud you must be. And well done DD1 on getting into the top set, that's probably all the incentive that she needs to keep writing and turning out really good work.

  • Another 2p Roadkill yesterday !! I'm on a roll with this !! :rotfl::rotfl:

    Now safely stored in the Roses Jar. :T:j

    DD1 off of school today, not a good start to the new term. She has been ill since last Friday and getting worse instead of better, so a trip to the Doctors this afternoon beckons.

    In the meantime the thermostat has packed up leaving us no hot water in addition to no heating ( I dont ned the heating at the moment but hot water would be nice :D ) Mr Pinot tried to nip home for an hour yesterday in an atempt to fix it but although he has taken the old one off of the wall he then had to jump on a train back to work ,before finding time to fit the new one. Thankfully the emergency hot water allowed us a shower this morning !

    Insurance Company still dragging their heels over Repairs to the Roof which have been ongoing for months and months. They have now lost all paperwork and quotes in connection with this, and the description of the actual problem which we gave them many months ago is absolutely nothing like the description they had written down :mad: therefore meaning that the procedure they told us to follow in connection with the claim was incorrect anyway.............so 4 / 5 months down the line we still have a hole in the roof, Autumn, Winter is fast approaching and we have no solution ! They are finally sending an assesor next week , so maybe they will finally get the ball rolling. :cool:

    She is very proud of herself !! She will be studying Lord of the Flies which I studied for O level and loved, so I am really pleased about that as I now have an excuse to read the book again ! :D

    Well I have hot water for now at least ! The new thermostat was faulty, cant deliver another until Monday, but in the meantime Mr Pinot managed to put the old one back on, with the mechanisms all showing, but it means we can get the thermostat to click and the water to spring into action !

    DD2 was up at 8.30 getting on with her homework, so much enthusiasm, I hope it stays that way. We have just finished covering her art book in a pair of old jeans and she has then splatter painted them. Now we need Daddy to come home tomorrow and cover in sticky back plastic as thats not my forte !!Thankfully the splatter painting was done in t e garden so no mess to tidy although the dining room appears to have become a homework club with her best friend arriving every evening this week for them to do homework together. They have trashed it with pens, pencils, glue sticks etc, but they enjoyed themselves and its nothing that cant be tidied, just not today ! I think I may just get the Best Friend a Key Cut as I fear she may become a lodger soon !!

    The ice cream man has just been and DD2 has got me a giant 99 ice cream with nuts and sauce, I have been ironing in the garden all day so it was much appreciated !! :D

    Today should have been NSD number 1 for September but the ice creams have just blown that right out of the water ! :o
