but we are now thinking of going to the FOS and register a complaint with them due to the length of time it has taken to refund us our money.

Problem with that is it will delay the payment for another 12-18 months as that is the sort of FOS queue currently on PPI.

Plus, if this is an auto-payout by NR, you may not benefit from having it investigated and no wrong doing found as they could withdraw the offer.

  • Well, NRAM managed to "lose" both my initial survey form from and now my acceptance letter. I have written to them today to tell them, yet again, that I accept their offer and that I'm giving them notice that if this drags after 28 days from the date of my letter that I will be charging them £6 per letter that I have to send. Sick of this bunch of clowns who appear to be able to lose a car in an otherwise empty car park. No wonder they are in so much bother if this is the way they are used to conducting business.

    Good luck with that!:D
  • Well, a man has to try! Anyway, I managed to actually speak to someone human at Northern Rock which was astonishing. After blaming the Royal Mail for the problem he said that they would send me the acceptance form again. I did bump my gums about them dragging their heels and managed to get a fax number out of them (0113 231 3129) which turns out to be KPMG Corporate Finance in Leeds. Copies of the letter have now been faxed and will also be sent recorded delivery! I suppose it will be BT's fault for them not receiving the fax and their lousy postman for not getting the letter to them. Funny how all of these places have inadequate postal staff serving them - they ought to have a word with someone about that!

Don't send anything recorded delivery, just get a receipt of posting. Recorded actually works against you in this instance.
  • Hmm, how so? I got a certificate of posting last time and just got the, "We can't be responsible for Royal Mail losing items in the post" line from NRAM.

All you get is proof that "someone" at the Bank received the letter, normally in the form of a squiggle rather than a proper signature. It then goes missing in the Bank's internal mail. It's a needless expense, therefore.
My own experience, and that of others here, is that it is better to simply get a receipt of posting. FOS will accept this as being sufficient evidence that the letter was received two days later.
  • When you receive your letter telling you how much you will receive, is this minus the 30% fee or will you receive a lovely letter telling you that you owe this after you've sent the money?

Ask them. Although in the case of mortgage PPI, it probably wont be part of the mortgage paperwork and they would have no way of knowing (if you bought it post sale, via the internet or via an adviser/broker).
