Katelyn90 I am sorry to hear you were scammed, especially as you were so close to “spotting” it.

This is an international racket and is huge (we talking 1000s of such honey trap ads) and it does not just impact Gumtree or the UK.

Previous posts details how you can make a claim against Ukash (but they will now charge an admin fee). You should get a crime ref number (CRN) via Action Fraud's online procedure, I believe.

See post #350 (pg 18) for one suggestion on how to make a claim successfully in detail to Ukash.

CheakyChap was also keen individuals raise issues with Ukash's practices to FSA (as Ukash is a trading name of Smart Voucher, authorised and regulated by the Financial Services Authority in the United Kingdom).

I will update my post #489 with other such useful posts to read as/when I spot them or PM’ed.

In your mission to make sure all paypoint retailers are aware of this scam, then it would be interesting to know if you can find out if Ukash has a responsibly (via FSA maybe) to notify their retailers of such information as you suggest (or "good practice") to minimise risk to money laundering scams such as this one.

Interesting. Scammers now trying to also target much higher value items, e.g £1,500 for a DIAGNOSTIC SCANNER adding tell tale line: .....Don't forgeta contact#... at the end of the ad 1004129602.

But some scam phrases are very common, likethe term "Numberor" resulted in 8 "live" and recent scam ads (now reported). e.g Numberor mobile# would help. Any questions please contact me.

And other phrases used by scammers include...
Hope you won't forget your number.or mobile.
Serious sale so ^ would appreciate a contact
If interested message me a contact.

In all these ads, the potential scammers do NOT provide a contact number on their ad, but request in a suspicious way you contact them by mobile instead of using Gumtree's secure email service. GTK
