  • too late for me to check that one out ganders ad was reported mid morning by e-mail to gumtree and removed before mid day
i also said that these scammers had come back and the reply was the ads were passed to the fraud department and deleted
gumtree need to find a way to deal with these scammers as it has become a bit of an epidemic.
ive got a feeling that the fraud department is small/works regular hours/is reactive rather than proactive/ and has too many different issues to deal with ie house letting scams, fake course scams, crb check scams, fake job offer scams - have i missed any? ect
just the simple fact of a traceable ip address when a new poster signs up to gumtree would almost eliminate this scam but i feel it will take a higher authority to act.
nearly coming up to the time to present all the facts to PM below labelled THE PERFECT CRIME

Just been scammed by Amanda Turner (amanda78turner@gmail.com) for a sofa on Gumtree for £170 :( - I found these posts too late!

Usually I'm soooooo careful online and suspicious of everything, but just now my head is totally caved in.

I realise from all these posts I have most probably seen the last of my money, but would appreciate some guidance as to how I go about reporting it, and if possible help prevent someone elses suffering.

Hi Nidge, I am sorry you have been scammed. You are not alone! If you look on this tread on Pg 25 post #489, I have summarised posts that may help. Eg.

See post #416 (Pg 21) for how to spot this, and similar scams.
See post #350 (Pg 18) for how to make a detailed claim to Ukash and getting a Crime Reference Number.
See post #289 (Pg 14) for how to email Gumtree on scams and fraud.

If anyone has more up to date info please let me know. Hope it helps and you can get some redress.

Also, Cheekychap, if you say “yesterday was first time i could not find a scammer” that is amazing! Well done on your efforts! It shows that scammers have been “interrupted” significantly on Gumtree. We must all be extra vigilant for what they do “next” and how they create new scam ads and where! GTK

friday seems to be scammers busiest day found a lot of ads and by clicking the report ad button first and then when i finish my sweep of ads ( i do not imply i can find them all - nor do i) then i do an e-mail to denise at gumtree and ads are removed pretty swiftly if not within the hour and i receive an e-mail saying all ads removed.it is hard to say what the magnitude of this reporting has on the scammers as we don't see the big picture but if the ads not there then amanda gets poorer. alas this is not the answer only a stop gap.
got final letter from ukash friday answer as expected now proceeding to ombudsman but waiting for all facts to be available.
two of these are the parcelforce FOI request and a nice freedom of information request letter downloaded from the city of london police with the e-mail address - all sent now requesting duration and magnitude of this scam.
if anyone wants to go on the hunt for these scams pm me if you require assistance (i'll be checking your posts first no newbys sorry). it gives me great pleasure to think i am doing some real positive damage to the scammers finances.
the latest twist is to request a landline for a chat so they are raising their heads a bit - hope we hear what that chat consists of
anybody got any more positives - love to hear them
