Hi,
I'm keen on the idea of running a large upright freezer in order to store bulk-bought food and pre-prepared meals. I would not buy a new freezer but find an unwanted secondhand one.
My question is this;
How much does it cost to run this type of freezer? Could it be that it may not be cost effective due to the increased monthly electricity expenditure?0 -
I saw an episode of the Anthea Turner's Perfect Housewife - thingy a few months ago (can't believe I've just admitted to that) and saw her do this really nifty folding a T-shirt trick where you pinch opposite corners or something and when you pick it up it's all perfectly folded.
I remember thinking - WOW, I'll remember that, dead easy and really useful .............. and of course I'v completely forgotten it.
Immaculately folded T-shirts would no doubt look entirely out of place in my house, anyway, BUT I thought if I could perform this trick in front of my eldest daughter I might convince her she should practice hard until she's perfected it, too...... It's quite nice being an optimist, really !!
Anyone any idea or saw this episode too and able to explain how it goes ??
I didn't see that episode but there are filmed step-by-step instructions on how to fold a t-shirt in the way you describe at https://www.videojug.com
There are also lots of useful instructions about how to do other things.0 -

Hi,
I think that's going to very much depend on what standard the freezer is, (older ones are less efficient and cost more), how well you stock it, how often you open it, and so on.
Perhaps the people on the utilities board can help you here.Hi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there. I bought some baby Nuby containers from Tesco, I know there dishwasher safe but don't know if they suitable for frezzing food. As a general rule if they are dishwasher safe are they ok in the freezer?
I have thrown the packaging away and when I called in today they had no in so I couldn't have a look?0 -
I stick all sorts of plastic containers in the freezer - ive never thought about them being freezer safe before!!!!
Anyway, everything that has gone into my freezer has come out absolutly fine (tesco value containers, plastic 'chiness takeaway' containers etc) - so i would guess yours will be - but im sure someone with a bit more knowledge could be along soon!!!!0 -
Hi andy,
Like catowen, if it's plastic then I think it's fine for the freezer. If I was you, I'd give them a go and see how you get on.
