Addiscomer, sorry I just saw this, my notifications seem to have been switched off....

I use one and a half pints of water (half hot/half cold) to a 1.5 K bag of flour, with a slick of oil (sunflower or olive) on top of the water before I put the flour in, I also just stick 3 teaspoons of salt, 3 teaspoons of sugar and a double sachet of easyblend yeast into the flour bag before I mix it in. It always come out well, and I use this mix for pizza bases too.

    Regards

    Kate

That sounds like *heat shock*. If the glass jug was hot from the wah-up water, and you placed it onto a cold surface (the draing rack) then the shock in the glass might shatter it.

Pyrex on the other hand is designed to withstand extremes of temperature, so is less likely to shatter in that way.

Thanks for your responses :D It's a bit weird that the jug couldn't withstand washing up water

Hey no worries - I didn't even know that there were such things as notifications anyway!

That is curious because I use one and a half pints for 3lb of flour and assumed that I would need a bit more for the full bag (3.3lb), but can't seem to find the best amount to get the same texture.

the beauty of stir fry's are that you can add anything you like ! I fry some chicken or beef pieces, add some peppers, bean sprouts (and anything else lurking in the bottom of the fridge !) some soy sauce. Add to your cooked noodles and you are away !! Enjoy, looby

Basically a very gentle simmer on a low heat.

My local shop has the boxes of hovis yeast sachets reduced from 99p to 25p with BB date of the end of March. Is it worth buying or will it be past it. I have a big thing of yeast in the fridge and probably won't need any more for a couple of weeks.

    Hi Haribo,

I know it looks like a bargain but I wouldn't bother unless you would be able to use it quickly. Yeast does go off if past it's sell by date and there is nothing more disappointing and wasteful than a brick insead of a loaf.

    Just a quickie ;)

Can you freeze cooked risotto? I'm cooking a chicken and pea risotto for dinner and want to knwo if it's worth doing my usual "bulk cooking" and making enough for 4 instead of 2 people :) If it can't be frozen then there is no point in making extra :)
