Does beetroot have to be cooked first please, or can it be grated raw to use in salad? I've only bought a pickled variety for the offspring before & remember mum cooking some years back, but the texture puts me off eating it these ways.

Yes you can use it raw grated in salads. If its the bouncy (I can't think of a better word :rotfl: ) texture that puts you off try roasting it like you would spuds as a vegetable with your dinner.

In the past I used to make big pots of crumble mix up and then freeze uncooked in an ice cream tub. I just then took out what I needed - no need to defrost and pour over whatever fruit I am using.

    Hi stacey,

Yes stroganoff made with sour cream freezes well and often tastes all the better for freezing.

  • Hello!

I've heard a lot of mention of lentils being added to bol sauce. What kind of lentils should I use? (Have green and dried split red) I am a lentil virgin...

  • I don't think it would matter too much, but I use red. I don't know if the green ones break down quite so much, but you'll know that better than me, and anyway, if you like green lentils I don't suppose it'll matter too much if they don't break down. The only reason I use the red is so that the kids don't notice the shortage of meat.

  • As long as the pieces of fish have been frozen separately and not in one big block, I don't see why you can't cook them from frozen. I'm sure I've done this in the past.

    Hi

I often cook a whole bag of red lentils - takes all of 10 or 15 mins. They then look like peas pudding. Pot them off into tubs and freeze them. Add a tub to bolognese, curry etc as you want. Just plop in a frozen tub into the pan. It will soon defrost down. You are then adding, bulk and protein to the dish without anyone knowing as it disappears into the dish.

What is very stronger flour? I was looking for bread flour in Asda yesterday, very strong flour was cheaper than strong flour.

    Thanks,
