I've just taken flapjacks out of the oen.
Do I cut them now while they are warm or should I wait until they are cold?

    thanks

    Hi npsmama,

I normally mark them when they are warm but don't actually cut them until they are cold.

I have some beetroot cooking which I got reduced today. Anyone know how long to boil as I am very tired and want to go to bed. Been on 40 mins so far.

    Hi buxtonrabbit,

I've only ever cooked beetroot but You'll know it's ready if you test it with a knife and it's tender and normal beetroot consistency.

This thread might help: How do i cook fresh beetroot

Shouldn't be too much longer. Part of my Saturday job many moons ago was boiling the beetroot in an old gas-fired copper. Never took longer than an hour;)

  • Thanks churchmouse. Just stuck a knife in and they feel tender. Good I can go to bed now. Night.

My mum used to say you shouldn't stick a knife into beetroot while cooking because it would 'bleed'. Her test was when the skin was ready to slip off.

But I don't know what effect 'bleeding' would have anyway.

  • i've just made muffin mixture.......i've put it into the tin in their cases....i've also made dough for bread rolls and doughballs.....is it ok to leave the muffin mixture until im ready to put the dough in the oven??? would save putting the oven on twice...does it matter if the muffin mixture is sat on the side for an hour?

I've never cooked beetroot & me muvva can't remember exactly, but a customer in the farm shop said to use a fine needle to test them to prevent bleeding

I now have visions of pale pink anaemic beetroot which has bled to death because the knife was too big! :rotfl:

    How was it, buxton rabbit?
