Hi buxtonrabbit,
I've only ever cooked beetroot but You'll know it's ready if you test it with a knife and it's tender and normal beetroot consistency.

Shouldn't be too much longer. Part of my Saturday job many moons ago was boiling the beetroot in an old gas-fired copper. Never took longer than an hour;)You never get a second chance to make a first impression.0 -

My mum used to say you shouldn't stick a knife into beetroot while cooking because it would 'bleed'. Her test was when the skin was ready to slip off.
But I don't know what effect 'bleeding' would have anyway.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
