Hello All!
Two questions if I may please?
1. I have a recipe that calls for Groundnut Oil. Went to Morrison's today and they didn't have it. What can I use instead please? I already have Olive oil, Sesame oil and Sunflower oil in stock - could I use any of these?
2. I used half a tin of tomato puree, am I able to freeze the remaining half and if so, how long would it keep?
Many thanks.Ageing is a privilege not everyone gets.

Hi,
I bought some in a health food shop on Saturday. None of the S/Markets seem to keep it anymore...====================================================

Hi tweetyshells,
Try your local chemist, that's where I normally get it. There's an earlier thread that may help: Malt Extract?

Hi clutterfree,
Groundnut oil is made from peanuts. If you are just using it to fry or saute food you can substitute olive oil but it won't be as flavoursome as the groundnut oil. If you are using it as a marinade or flavouring the sesame oil is probably your best bet but be careful as it can be a very strong flavour.
The tomato puree will freeze fine and will keep frozen for about six months.

I want to make beef stew for dinner
I have the beef and veg and the potatoes, but I've realised I've got no gravy granules and can't get to the shops
what can I use instead. I have plain flour (which I normally use with the gravy granules), veg stock and fresh chicken stock. I've probably got a bottle of red wine somewhere as wellr.mac, you are so wise and wonderful, that post was lovely and so insightful!0 -
If you coat the pieces of beef in seasoned flour and cook in the veg stock, it should thicken itself. If it needs a bit more thickening just make up a paste of flour or cornflour and water. This might make it a bit paler than you are used to.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member # 593 - Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts!0

Hi
Can anyone tell me if you can cook dried pasta in the microwave, I've run out of gas on the hob and the hubbie is due in any minute???Live on a little over £4k challenge

Hi broke mum,
You can cook pasta in the microwave. Cover the pasta in boiling water from the kettle and cook on high for about 10 minutes. Obviously the length of time will depend on the amount of pasta being cooked so keep checking to see if it's ready.
