The dishwasher is getting pongy again. Is there an OS method of keeping it fresh in between cleaning cycles?

    Thanks in anticipation.

And my washing machine is getting pongy:o ! Same question please.
  • The pongy thing for both DW and WM - normally suggestions are to put the appliance on its hottest cycle once a month with some baking soda to wash (in the WM) and/or vinegar in the rinse for both. This clears out all the low temp gunge in the pipes :)

For the DW I usually put a slice of (already used in tea!) lemon in one of the cutlery drawers, seems to help a bit as well...
  • Also to help with the "pong" in the machines, try leaving the door open between uses. This is easy enough done on the dw, but leaving the wm door open overnight does help.

Any one know how to do nachos?? The type that you get in restaurants...? I've tried putting the chips on a baking tray and in a dish both times scattering the cheese over but whenever I take them out of the oven the cheese is never how they get it in the restaurants.. its either too crispy (and so are the chips) or not melted enough..

Is there a trick I'm missing???

I do them in the microwave. I pop the tortilla chips in a pasta bowl then top them with salsa then grated cheese. Just give them a minute, check them then give them more time until the cheese is melted enough. They will make popping noises in the micro as the chips are salty.

Thanks for the tips. I'll give it a go.

when my washing machine was pongy I tried all sorts to clean the black gunge out of the seals and clear the smell. Eventually it cleared again but I've gone back to predominantly hotter washes and bio powders, every 48 hours if poss. I know it doesn't sound very MSE or eco-friendly but it seems the best way to keep the gunk ad wiff at bay in my machine!

Does beetroot have to be cooked first please, or can it be grated raw to use in salad? I've only bought a pickled variety for the offspring before & remember mum cooking some years back, but the texture puts me off eating it these ways.
