Morning all
My first wash is done using a third of each soda crystals/cheap powder/daz and this is now sitting on the radiators drying.
What i would like to know is how much of this stuff should i be using?
I`ve been using tablets for so long that i have no idea so i used half a cup of each putting both powders in the drawer and the crystals in the drum wth the washing.
Is this too much?

Never made it before ...
and would like to double up the batch. Can I freeze lentil soup ????
Also, what happens if you cook lentils for longer than the recipe says, I want to do it in the SC but obviously slowly slowly slowly.
Many thanks in advance0 -
I can think of a few options ...
- You sit down and talk together, and you tell him you are worn out waiting on him hand a foot. Think beforehand what you would like him to help with.
- You withdraw 'privileges' because you are too tired, and tell him WHY you are too tired ...
- You lower your standards slightly ...
- You go on strike completely and see how long it is before he notices ...
This depends mostly on how hard your water is (and to some extent, how soiled a given wash load is - football kit might need more, for example).
If you've got one of those measuring scoops that came with one of the powders - and still got a box around(?) to tell you how many (or part) scoops needed for your water type - then that's how much you need to finish up with in total. So your mixed powders plus the crystals should add up to the amount that you would normally use.
Lots of people find that they can in fact reduce the total amount - but this is a trial and error kind of thing and you need to check your wash to make sure that you haven't reduced by too much.Hi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there. Thanks Squeaky,
i don`t still have a scoop but i will cut it down a bit each time until i think it`s as low as possible.I wasn`t sure how much to start with and didn`t want to waste any but our water is quite hard.
Most of the washing i do isn`t heavily soiled only the trousers that DH walks the dogs in as they`re muddy.

I'm now down to two heaped desert spoons of powder and one of crystals for light washes, and just add an extra one of each for things that need a bit more.
Oh... and a tip:-
Tip:- Buying powder in large packs (for economy) is all very well, but as you reduce your usage so that it last longer some of the cleaning agents gradually disperse, making them less effective. So... Next time you empty one of those large plastic paint buckets, clean it out and store your powder in there because it's nice and airtight - unlike your cardboard boxI also use an old dishwasher powder container for actually dispensing my soap powder - I just top it up as needed from my bulk supply in the paint container. This saves me from having to open it too often and keeps my "ready use" powder reasonably airtight.

Hi
I wondered if anyone can remember a website where if you list the ingredients you have it gives you ideas of what you could make?
I'm sure it's been mentioned on OS but I can't find the relevant posts/threads again.
There's not much besides celery, mushrooms and potatoes in the cupboards - it's been a frugal week - so I was hoping for some inspiration!
Thank You"all endings are also beginnings. We just don't know it at the time..."0 -
bbc food lets you list up to 3 ingredients and then suggests recipes for you.0

Thanks so much for this Squeaky,
i will start measuring in tablespoons now and see how i go on.
The next time my dw powder runs out i`ll be saving the container too.
This first time i only bought the smallest of soap powders just to see how i get on with things but when i buy the big ones next time i`ll store them the way you suggested.
Thanks again!

Thanks.
Talking - I think the best route. He does do some bits but just not enough considering I'm new to all this too (we've just moved in together - both with parents before and we're not young)!!
Privileges - not much of that to withdraw at the mo - but entirely another issue I need to talk to him about too!
Standards - having just been next door to feed the cats for the first time - this wouldn't hurt - our place is a show home in comparison!
Don't want to do this really but feel like it sometimes. Means I'll end up not taking lunches to work, not meal planning so we'll throw out more food and won't have anything to wear myself though!
He's grown up without his Mum since he was 13 and always did his own washing, ironing and cooking for him and his dad when I met him. I think he thinks he's landed on his feet now! To be fair he does make packed lunches for us and wash up most of the time. He will hoover and clean the bathroom but I have to constantly ask him which wears me out. I've just started in a new position at work and its hard work at the mo - I know he works hard too but sharing must be easier than doing two full time jobs! I think I've tried to hard to be a Stepford wife while still working!
Anyway thanks for all the tips - Ill try a few (hot bath, Horlicks and bed to myself tonight) and let this board get back to OS foodie bits instead of relationship counselling!0
