belfastgirl23 wrote:I'm trying to be more OS but am finding that I'm using up my supply of tupperware pretty fast now that I'm freezing things. I know some of you OS folks use old margerine cartons etc but DH would think I had finally looped the loop if I did this (he's coming along, but slowly!) so I was wondering if anyone can suggest where you get tupperware type containers, around 0.5/0.75l capacity, reasonably cheap. ideally microwave, dishwasher and (of course) freezer safe? Cheers.
Lock'n'lock are fab - satisfy all your criteria, but aren't cheapLakeland have a big range, but again, prcey. Bigger Tescos might stock them. I get mine from Boyes, but that's only in the Yorkshire area.

Asda do a range of semi-disposable containers in multi-packs called "Take-alongs" - googling has revealed they are made by Rubbermaid so maybe a hardware shop would have them. They are quite cheap and save tying up your decent tupperware with leftovers of old chilli con carne. Equivalent to a decent takeaway box I'd say - but should last for ages. And they stack/nest in your cupboard too - useful if the plastic boxes are taking over the asylum.
Lakeland also do a multi-pack of freezer boxes similar thing - can't possibly attempt a link on my second ever post but you might look at "12 Re-usable Microwave dishes" (£6.50). I've got the 1.2 litre ones and they will probably keep me going for the next 10 years - they are huge. Also see "Stack-a-boxes" 0.75 litre, 10 for £7.99.
My husband (a born OS'er) suggests putting the stuff in a big freezer bag in a box, then sliding it out of the box when frozen. Have not tried this !
If I lived near a Boyes , though, PP, I would never darken the doors of Lakeland again....0 -
If I make a big batch of rice pud, can I freeze it for use later?0
-
Yep. But...
You should cool it as quickly as possible, so decant it from the hot pot into a cold one, and then freeze it as soon as it's cool.
The usual rules about defrosting and reheating apply too.
Rice pud tends to go a bit sort of grainy though when defrosted. If you don't like it - add a little extar milk and whizz it up in a liquidiser to make "ground rice". Don't use a low-fat mozarella though, the low fat stuff goes horrible and rubbery when it starts to cool down.0
