  • Hi quick question. I was baking cakes today and was wondering what the OS gang would use to line there cake tins. So to be true OS do you use tinfoil/greaseproof paper or is ther some other way that I might be missing out on? Ta in advance.

If i have run out of greaseproof (nearly always as i never remember to buy any) i just grease the tin and sprinkle with flour.

Has anyone made Black Saturn's icecream, the recipe states 4 tins of sterilised cream etc. Whisk together the cream and sugar but it doesn't say to what stage to whisk it, is it to whipped cream stage of just to combine sugar and cream together?

  • I'm trying to be more OS but am finding that I'm using up my supply of tupperware pretty fast now that I'm freezing things. I know some of you OS folks use old margerine cartons etc but DH would think I had finally looped the loop if I did this (he's coming along, but slowly!) so I was wondering if anyone can suggest where you get tupperware type containers, around 0.5/0.75l capacity, reasonably cheap. ideally microwave, dishwasher and (of course) freezer safe? Cheers.

I ahve been using ikea's tupperwear. It isn't the best but it is cheap and can be used in all situations, and as long as I am not throwing them around like a juggler then they do the job!!!!;)

I also use and reuse cheap freezer bags from the supermarket. Easier to store small amounts of soup etc in and they take up less room as they aren't rigid.

I love the 'lock and lock' ones that you get but they are very expensive.:o

    hi

Either will do fine - it's your choice.

Time depends on all sorts of things such as the amount of pie and its depth etc...

The government guideline says that food should be re-heated until it is piping hot throughout i.e. above 72°C

If you're not sure, it's been suggested that you stick a knife in the thickest area and leave it there for several seconds. Then take it out and immediately test the temperature of the knife. It should be HOT.
