Catowen it says that that the electricity output is 330 watts, if you leave it on for 10 fours that will be something like 3kw... that is an awful lot considering that we usually use 7 kw a day...

Is this right or am I not getting it... will do a search for that thread weegie mentioned...

    Thanks! :)

    Lemon Juice

Any of you good souls lurking about? I want to clean shower head today with my vinegar (combination metal and plastic rose). Is it OK to use bottled lemon juice (or Jif Lemon) for this.

Take a look here. Several people give the power consumptions of their SCs. Suggestion is that this has increased in recent years.

Hi, GB  Would think lemon will be OK to substitute for vinegar - they're both dilute acid. Lemon will taste nicer, too, and any left over, reward yourself (and me ;) ) with a G&T :D

You must have read my thoughts! DH on way to football via Asda to buy some more gin! I get through a lot of it!!! I will just buy a bottle of the concentrated lemon juice to mix with the vinegar. Thanks for your help.

    Bottoms up!

Really quick question - does anyone else think turkey mince has a funny smell? Or could my mince be off? I froze it as soon as I bought it (although it was reduced) and defrosted it properly. It's the second time I've cooked with turkey mince, the first time I threw the mince out because I thought it was off but it would be very unlucky to have "off" turkey twice...

If anyone knows where I can buy wire for bras (underwired) would appreciate them posting/sending me a PM. Save me replacing them at £30+ a shot if I can get some! I did search for bra+underwire and bra+wire and couldn't find anything :(

    2 things come to mind...

    1. Can you recycle? When you throw out your old bras, save the wires!

    2. It might be worth buying cheap bras in the market just for the underwires - you can often get bras in my local (Wembley) market for £2.99 and sometimes even for £1...If you chatted up the stallholder and explained that you are just after the wires they might even sell you damaged stock (all market stalls have things which have fallen into puddles, in my experience!!!! :rotfl: )

Now that you mention it, I was shocked at 330w output as well! I was always told that SC used about the same as a lightbulb.

Then I had a think about it, and a bit of a Google, and came up with the following.

    1. The SC mentioned is a 6.5 litre one. Whilst some old-stylers swear by slow cooking large batches, it iwill obviously take more electricity. Personally, I have a 3.5 litre one. I checked here, and the 3.5l one I have is only 150 watts - a lot nearer the consumption I was expecting!!!

    2. Presumably, as with heaters, this is the maximum output. Modern SCs have several heat settings, and when you are cooking for longer periods of time (which IMHO is the whole point of SCs :p ) you use the lowest setting. So the costs should be a lot lower than 330w an hour if you are leaving stuff on all day.

    HTH! :D
