Now that you mention it, I was shocked at 330w output as well! I was always told that SC used about the same as a lightbulb.

Then I had a think about it, and a bit of a Google, and came up with the following.

    1. The SC mentioned is a 6.5 litre one. Whilst some old-stylers swear by slow cooking large batches, it iwill obviously take more electricity. Personally, I have a 3.5 litre one. I checked here, and the 3.5l one I have is only 150 watts - a lot nearer the consumption I was expecting!!!

    2. Presumably, as with heaters, this is the maximum output. Modern SCs have several heat settings, and when you are cooking for longer periods of time (which IMHO is the whole point of SCs :p ) you use the lowest setting. So the costs should be a lot lower than 330w an hour if you are leaving stuff on all day.

    HTH! :D

Just realised that i did put the 6.5 litre one up, when i also have the 3.5 one!!!! But, at least i (and hopefully others) have now found out a bit more about the output of SCs!!!!
  • Hiya,
I have a question - what is the best non chemical to use for cleaning oven trays?
I hate doing this job and use tin foil to put it off which obviously makes the job harder.
    Many thanks in advance :)

  • Hello, DD is wanting to make some paper. The book from the library requires *cold water starch powder*. I have spray starch. Does anyone know whether I can buy this from the supermarket, or will I need a hardware shop?

Any ideas of suppliers will be gratefully recieved.

    Many thanks, Penny. x

Im new to the forums and was eagerly reading yesterday about the February Challage and the Store Cupboard Challage, both of which I'm going to try.

I went to Asda today where they had packs of sausages reduced to 30p....Brill I thought and popped 6 packs in my basket. When I got to the till they said I'd have to pay for each pack in a seperate transaction. I was tempted to say oh forget it but stuck in there and felt a bit like a prat.

Has anyone else encountered this? Were there any reasons given?

It's under the thread for Black Saturn's menu-planner. I'll see if I can find it...

I would hazard a guess that the sausages might have been on promotion - for example, if they were originally on BOGOF at £1.99 each, and they are now yellow-stickered at 30p each, the supermarket's computer system still thinks it has to knock £1.99 off your bill for every second packet you buy, which in this case means they would be paying you to take them away! Some supermarkets don't seem to notice this happening (God bless the Co-op!) but most now tip off their cashiers to make sure things like this don't trigger the BOGOF thing on their computer. Not sure why they couldn't have just put them through on a special code though (like just keying in 6 x "misc grocery 30p").

    Right, MY question is...

When you wash microfibre cloths you're not supposed to use fabric conditioner. However, if you're using vinegar instead of fabric conditioner can you still use it? It's just that I want to wask my cloths in the machine as part of a full load, and I don't want the rest of the load not to be soft...
