I have just stared at this pattern for a good five minutes trying to work out widths versus height and all manner of things to find out what on earth they mean.

Then the light bulb came on. Not 8 and 14 cm.rolleyes.gif 8 1/4 cm or eight and a quarter, if you want the long version.

Easy when you spot it, isn't it?!!!

    Happy knitting...
  • I think it means that you decrease 1 stitch each end when it measures 8cm and then again when it measures 14 cm. So if you start with 56 stitches, when its 14cm long you'll be left with 52 stitches.

I agree with you Hardpressed, that seems to be the way instructions are given for decreasing and increasing on this site...https://www.garnstudio.com there are some brilliant patterns on it I have just been browsing for Christmas gift ideas and have come up with quite a few. The only downside I could see is that many of the patterns use 2 or 3 different yarns knitted together but if you get the result maybe that doesn't matter.

Good luck with your cardigan Redballoon...post a picture when its finished

Does anyone have a link to old cleaning threads? Just the basics such as how much white vinegar to use in what context and so on.

Also is there anything old style I can use in the washing machine instead of powders?

You can find this via my signature any time you see it or...

..you can use the Indexed Collections link in the Start Here Bar at the top ofthe main listing page which looks something like this:-

apologies for not doing a search now, but I have read at least some of the threads in the past without seeing this specific query addressed.

DH has bought himself a microfibre towel to help manage his sweating fits (don't ask ...) and it says not to use fabric conditioner.

Can I use vinegar instead? I'm thinking I ought be able to, because my (admittedly limited) understanding is that the vinegar just neutralises any detergent residue and leaves things a bit softer, without clogging up the fibres like fabric conditioner might.

And I admit I do wash my microfibre turban with fabric conditioner without noticing any deterioration in performance.

    Yes.

You're advised not to use Fabric conditioner on these (and towels too!) because it stops them from absorbing water.

    HTH :)
