MSE News: Ryanair's new card charges come into effect

I live in Northern Ireland but use Ryanair frequently, flying out of Dublin. To that end, I have a pre-paid Mastercard in euros.
I have made a dummy booking from Dublin and it does not appear to charge for using this, even when I put in UK as my billing address.
I presume that this is because the Ryanair Cash Passport is not available in the Republic of Ireland. It is only available in the UK and Italy so far.0 -

Yes seems to be based on the currency. A flight from DUB to STN is free with prepaid MC but a flight from STN to DUB is not. Even with UK selected as the Country0

Can someone please explain to me how on earth on a pre-paid mastercard one can get into a negative balance?

this is absurd
i live in dublin and yesterday used my euro pre-paid mastercard to book a one way from dublin-leeds.... no charges.
i need to now book coming back but this time one way with 3 passengers. even going through the ryanair ireland site to do this it straight away changes the currency to sterling and then wont let me complete the booking using my irish pre paid mastercard with my irish address. the payment page says it cant complete and that my address must match that of my card which it clearly does.
any ideas how to get around this as i dont fancy paying 3 sets of charges when im using my euro card and dont even live in the uk?0 -

On Monday morning your balance is £100. You buy something on Monday afternoon that costs £90.
The amount is authorised, but not debited completely. The merchant bank usually applies for the funds within a few days and the sale completes and the funds are fully deducted.
However, sometimes the merchant bank delays the request, lets say for 2 weeks in this case. By that time your card issuer will have returned the funds to your prepaid card for you to spend.
So you go and spend another £20, which is then deducted. Your balance is now £80.
The merchant from 2 weeks ago now comes along with its valid* authorisation and takes £90 putting you £10 in negative balance.
*Authorisations are valid for 180 days.0 -
You either get a Ryanair mastercard or paid the charges.. I didn't really believe Ryanair was going to allow not to pay charges just by using another country's website to purchase flights!! (that would be too easy). If the flights are from the UK, they are in sterling and therefore only the Ryanair mastercad avoids the charges..0

You can avoid the charges by using https://www.travelrepublic.co.uk. The only downside is you can only book return journeys.0 -
@ victorkee I don't have the new card yet but when booking previously with the prepaid mastercard I booked for 4 people with no fee.0
