  • Hi Freightexec2009! You are my wedding twin, I am also getting married on the 24th of August this year :)
I am planning on sending the invites out mid may earliest and asking for a reply date of the 24th of July, so all being well I should know a month beforehand what the final numbers are, this'll make it easier to get table plans and favours sorted etc..
I have to finish the invites first, planning a wedding on a budget is proving to be very time consuming, I have been trying to do everything I can DIY!! How are you finding it all? Much left to do? Xxx
  • Hi All,
Hoping to join you as our wedding is now firmly set for 17th August 2013!!! :)
How is everyone's planning going? We're getting there but have LOADS more to do! And the top priority should be my wedding dress - I can't warrant spending loads on it (I've been looking at the other threads to get ideas) and I'm really nervous about going and trying some on! :S!
At the moment we're trying to work out favours for 75 day guests/130 evening guests! Are people generally just doing favours for full day guests? What kinds of things are you thinking?
Looking forward to hearing all about your progress and weddings! :)

  • Hi geh201 :)

Ours is getting there! It has been a long haul! The problem with planning on a budget is it's soooo time consuming, I have trawled online trying to find the very cheapest of everything.. and the wedding seems to still be costing a lot more than originally planned! DIY things are also taking up a lot of my time!

I got my wedding dress not long after we got engaged, there was a super sale on at a local bridal shop, so I luckily got mine for a steal ;) Don't be nervous, myself being a lady on the larger side was worried that I wasn't going to feel beautiful in anything, but trust me it's amazing what a confidence boost slipping on beautiful gowns can give you! Enjoy it :)

I have a list as long as my arm of things left to do (DIY Projects mainly) but most of the important things are out of the way apart from:-
    Bridesmaid dresses
Wedding ring for me (oh's has already been ordered)
    Invitations
    Vow and music selections

Were only doing favours for the day guests, I bought some metal decorative hearts for the ladies (a steal at 39p each from dotcomgift shop in the sale) for the men I am thinking chocolates in organza bags, cause I can pick them up real cheap on ebay. I didn't even think about providing them for evening guests, I have never received a favour as an evening only guest, nice touch if you have the budget to though :)

  • JessicaLaLa ah thats fab! ;) and thanks for your help with that, gives me a good idea on when to do what!

I've been trying to do a lot DIY, and you are all right in saying that it is certainly time consuming! and with so much to think about!

The hearts you have put together sound lovely for your favours. I've got a bit of a heart theme going on..

I need to desperately start on my invitations which I am going to make myself with a rubber heart stamp. I've bought a few, with a few pads of ink so that I can enlist the help of my family one evening with a bottle of wine and something to eat ;)

I have started my table centre pieces and table numbers. My favours are going to be made out of chocolate moulds on lolly sticks - work out very cheap but need to be made nearer the time. I've got my name pieces which worked out fairly resonable and could also double as a favour. I am making my own wedding wish tree, fresh out of nans garden ;D also my own DIY card box out of an old suitcase. Will also be making my own confetti cones out of card. Bridesmaids: For the teens I am crystalising high tops which I managed to buy for a fiver a pair in the sale last year and the older girls will be pamper packs or something along those lines. I will also be making the button holes for my OH and groomsmen, fake flowers with a bit of jazz. Will possibly do the same for the bridesmaids with fake flower wrist corsages?? No fresh flowers as I've found the cost to be to high. Nan making my cake - a good ol' victoria sponge :D

So many ideas in my head, with little time and sometimes just a lack of motivation..but i suppose we all have those days when we are trying to keep to a budget! xxxxxx
  • Hi freightexec2009 and JessicaLaLa, I am also getting married on the 24th August, so that must make us triplets!

I sent my invitations out last Saturday, mainly because my family is huge and people wanted hotel details etc, and some invites had to go abroad.

Struggling with BM dresses at the mo, every time we go to order dresses we like and within our budget there's some issue with stock or measurements or something. One bridesmaid has just found out she's pregnant, due date a week after the wedding ! I've told her I'd still love her to be a bridesmaid but it's entirely up to her if she can cope with it.

I'm finding myself stressed out of my skull sometimes, but know I will miss the planning when it's all over!
  • Hi little_mascara88! My triplet ;) Sounds like you are well organised with your invitations, I was thinking of sending mine in March if Im honest as my cousin decided to get married on the same day! Grrrrr. So a quadruplet - but she's not allowed in our gang ha ha.

BM dresses are hard work, I will be getting mine from light in the box. And a pregnant one?! blimey I am waiting for that one to happen with my BF!..(feel it in my waters!) and would probably do the same as you have, in that I would still want her as a bridesmaid but of course its entirely up to her.

I was thinking the very same thing, what the hell will I do when its all finished? :( xxxx
  • Hi all hope you are all getting on well with your plans. I feel like I have achieved a lot this week.

I made the prototype for my invites and I love it so will start making them this weekend with a view to getting them out by the end of March /(does that sound ok for a 10th August wedding).

We went to the venue to arrange times, the menu etc, so that feels very real now!

Had a great day today as I chose my flowers and Iwent to see a lady who is designing and ,aking me a tiara, bracelet and earrings and we designed something and it's beautiful! So excited....wish it was August!

    Hello all,

I'm getting married on Friday 09 August this year - AGHHHHHHH!!!

There's so much to do and it must all be done on a tight budget!

I've recently found a free online budgeting tool (Google docs apps type of spreadsheet thing) and have found that to be incredibly useful. As well as having more lists than I know what to do with!

My question for today is on the subject of wedding dresses - I have seen many threads on the subject of affordable/budget/ebay/Chinese made wedding dresses. I have searched a few of the sites and have found generally mixed reviews.
Does anyone here have any recent first hand experience of dealing with the budget end of the wedding dress market? And by budget, I mean £150 or less... I have found that bridal dress shops don't tend to stock very much (if anything) in the price range I'm looking at and the highstreet shops that do bridal dresses aren't stocking dresses that (IMHO) suit my physique.

Advice, guidance or words of inspiration welcome!

    Ems :)

    Hi Ems!
I'm sure you've already looked but my beautiful dress is from Monsoon and Phase eight seem to have some lovely wedding dresses in for roughly your price range (only seen them online though) worth a try if you haven't already. No experience with chinese sites etc so can't help you there alas
