We saw our caterer before Christmas so ticked that one off too - but we're not giving people a menu choice ;)
Invites are designed but nothing physically printed - hoping to get that sorted in a few weeks when H2B has a week off work (he's the art director around here bless him!)
I tried my dress on the other day (have it at home already) with the accessories I have so far and the shoes etc and then my intercom buzzed - nearly had the fright of my life but luckily the postman only needed letting in the building door and didn't have a package fro me or he would've thought I was mad!

Ha ha, that would have been priceless!

Anyone else finding it difficult to tick things off? Currently I've got half finished bridesmaids bouquets (felt) half finished "cards" bunting for the card box, half finished peg doll cake topper, half painted library card catalogue drawer (for alt guest book) and half assembled cupcake flags! And that's just projects started in the last two weeks...

Hi Katy84 - I thought we were doing really well... then my motivation kind of dipped... I really need to be sorting invitations and the like, but although I have a rough idea of what I want, I haven't got round to ordering them yet. Still haven't heard from the Tribunal and I think until I know where we are going to get married definitely, I am subconsciously putting it off.
We went to a wedding fair yesterday which basically confirmed that we are sorted generally but the scary think is that I have less than 7 months to go now and I feel like I am treading water.
On the upside - dress fitting on 2nd Feb! Need to lose the excess weight from Christmas then...

Good luck sdr2211 (with the christmas weight and the tribunal!) I didn't really do anything in Nov/Dec so maybe you'll get your motivation back soon. I've picked up the pace a bit now but just seem to be good at starting things but rubbish at finishing them!

  • Hi Ladies!

Hope your plans are going well? :)

I have had a bit of a bad time over Christmas and new year - letting myself get really down over all the wedding plans and feeling really let down by family and friends. SO.... my darling man and I have decided that instead of having the big wedding in August, we are going to "run away" to Gretna in April without telling anyone apart from the 4 people and my kids who will be there!;)

We will still have a big party in August (so we can show off in our wedding finery!) but it will be a party, not a wedding reception.

Anyhow, I have joined the April 2013 ladies to plan the wedding and sticking around with you August ladies to discuss/plan the wedding party if thats ok?

oooh IloveaScotsman - how exciting for you! You are welcome to hang around with us lot obviously... want to hear all about April though!

I hope you are feeling better now about the planning too and aren't letting people get you down.

  • Afternoon ladies! Ive been watching the thread for a while and I love reading how everyone is getting on...eeeek not long and we'll be the Mrs!
I am getting married 24th Aug and booked most things, venue, dress, entertainment, registrar, making invites/table deccies etc.
The reason I am posting is because I am struggling with what to do with my bridesmaids.
What have you lovely ladies decided to do with the purchase of bridesmaids dresses? Are you paying or asking them to?
I have 6 bridesmaids (to be fair, I didnt want that many but groom wanted input - and most of them have not bothered once with the wedding prep!!grrrrr but thats another matter entirely..maybe I'll rant about that eventually!).
I really am going down the route of asking them to pay, especially when everything else costs so much. The dresses I have chosen are £65 each so I think reasonable: In champagne colour http://www.lightinthebox.com/sheath--column-strapless-floor-length-chiffon-bridesmaid-dress_p188924.html?currency=GBP
If you have asked them to pay, how did you go about it? I really dont want to offend anyone. (When I discussed with my best friend who is my bridesmaid, she did state she would be fairly offended if that was the case because Ive asked her to be one but would pay if need be) ! xxx

Hi Freightexec2009 - welcome and congratulations!
I have five BM's - which is made up of one MOH, 2 adults and 2 children. The two adults are the eldest daughters of both my H2B and I, the MOH is a way of trying to be fair to them both by not making either feel more valued on the day and the two children are my other daughter and my niece. I managed to get two free dresses when I purchased my dress which was fine, but I am paying for all the others. So, I have to buy one the same from the bridal shop which is pretty expensive and two children's dresses. I am looking at a shop online too but I haven't really done too much about it as they are growing so quickly. I plan to get them in a couple of months but ensure there is enough growing room...
For me though - it is the accessories that are costing a lot. We are getting their jewellery and their shoes and I am paying for hair and make up on the day. So far, that is almost £800 ... and most of that is hair and make up! Shoes and jewellery have been sourced in the sales over time.

I know I would probably have had to pay anyway given that they are generally relatives, but I am doing it a bit through clenched teeth. This isn't coming out of the joint wedding costs either, despite H2B insisting on the extra BM.

If you buy their dresses, are you going to ask for them back so that you could maybe recoup some of the cost by selling them on afterwards? Maybe have a chat with them about their expectations too - will they get their own shoes or other accessories? Six lots could start to add up...
